Gabapentin is widely prescribed for nerve pain, but it doesn’t work the same for everyone.

We studied actual human sensory neurons from donors and found that some responded strongly - and others hardly at all.

Excited to share my first senior author paper in Pain! 🎉 We identify Synaptojanin 1 & Endophilin A1 as key endocytic mediators of nociception. Silencing them blocks spinal synaptic transmission and relieves pain in cancer & postoperative models, without affecting normal behavior.

The authors describe a susceptibility of the peripheral nervous system to neuronal senescence with age or injury relevant for sensory dysfunction, such as chronic pain.
