Let me share my greatest handicap in science: we just got some really, really cool neuroimmune data for ALS.

And I really want to share it.

Which hurts my competitiveness.

At the end of the day, who needs bragging rights? If someone else solves ALS, I will be very, very happy.

As a patient who lives with a chronic neuroimmune condition, this is, politely, fucking bullshit. I understand medical terminology. Don't talk to me like a child. FATIGUE IS NOT THE SAME AS TIREDNESS. Tiredness is resolved by rest. Fatigue doesn't.

The other is to use the International Consensus Criteria’s definition for PENE (post-exertional neuroimmune exhaustion), which characterizes the phenomenon in greater detail.

Onto Part B of Day 1: Molecular messengers & systemic signals.

First up: Constantino Iadecola (Weill Cornell Med) who studies the "neurovascular / neuroimmune interactions" & brain health in stroke and high blood pressure.

We have 400 miles of blood vessels in our brains (wow!).

The “transdiagnostic genetic vulnerability that reaches far beyond FM affecting core neurobiological systems:
central nervous system excitability, dopaminergic/serotonergic signaling, neuroimmune stress

It is found in ME/CFS, chronic pain conditions, IBS, PTSD, depression”

Hello everyone! I am a postdoc in mucosal immunology and I am looking for new postdoc position in Europe! I know a lot about gut mast cells, but also CD4 T cells and type 2/3 immunity in general. I've worked with single cell sequencing and neuroimmune interactions. Feel free to share! Thank you! ♥️🥼👩‍🔬

Shingrix’s AS01 adjuvant produces an unusually strong innate + T-cell boost (MPL + QS-21) that plausibly (a) prevents VZV-driven neuroinflammation and/or (b) triggers durable innate/“trained” immune changes that reduce neuroimmune risk but the human data are observational & causality is not proven.

i cannot help but wonder, with the information coming out of MUSC about hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos likely being neuroimmune-related instead of collagen related, & with the venn diagram of hEDs & endo occurrence, if this information might be used at cross purposes for dual diagnostics
"Menstrual blood was messy, it was imprecise, it was difficult to collect, OB-GYNs told the pair. Why bother when the disease could be diagnosed with surgery?"

(Which is an absolutely appalling state of affairs for a vocation which first must "do no harm", I might add.)
