It IS lazy... IF you use it all the time.
You shouldn't let your players "just do" stuff... you can work it (and the rules) into giving them the scene they're craving and at the same time stay within the confines of the game - that's a learned skill that you develop as a DM.

Character death in TTRPGs.
"Back in the day" (yes, I am THAT old) we rolled characters, explored dungeons with those PCs, slew monsters and occasionally died... but the 1e DMG goes out of its way to encourage us to roll more than one character.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.
