Rebecca Heineman's last message was for people to look up her departed partner, Jennell Jaquays.

Jaquays was so influent to tabletop RPGs that "Jaquaysing" became a verb for designing complex, non-linear dungeons.

@nickoten.bsky.social wrote a great article on her:

(This is a slightly cleaned up version of my two Bluesky threads on Jennell Jaquays, preserved in a hopefully easier to read format. Thank Amanda P for reminding me that having these things stored …

I have been trying to gather all my RPGs into one place.

I'm sure Expedition 33 is an excellent game, and I'll probably check it out at some point, but I do think it's silly to claim it saved turn-based RPGs when plenty of turn-based RPGs have done well in recent memory. Indie darlings like Undertale and Deltarune, Metaphor, Persona 5 Royal...

congrats to expedition 33 entering the pantheon of "the good one" rpgs including Persona 5 and Super Mario RPG and that's it

The US wasn't the only country to pin an entire moral panic on tabletop RPGs. We spoke with players in Brazil and Spain about their own bookbound boogeymen.

Happy 59th birthday to Monolith Soft Founder Tetsuya Takahashi!

Monolith Soft has become a vitally important studio to Nintendo. Not just creating ambitious RPGs, but the support they give to Nintendo's biggest games.

He's currently working on a new RPG.

rpgs have always been a popular genre with worldwide cross pollination and different evolutionary lines. jrpg style games made in the west growing in popularity is just another extension of wizardry style games blowing up in japan in the 80s. everyone's in conversation with each other
November 18, 2025 at 5:57 AM
by which i mean like. souls games and monster hunter games are both rpgs made in japan that have evolved and experimented in unconventional ways and then people just start saying well they're not jrpgs anymore so its like ok this discussion is pointless then lol

the best thing about Oglaf is that, like, 80% of it is actually useful ideas for your RPGs

Do you like card RPGs? Then you're gonna want to listen to our latest episode of Axe of the Blood God. 🃏
In what I'm retroactively calling "Part 1" we discuss the origins of cards themselves, the roleplay that comes from improvising with the hand you're dealt, and why we love Card-Based Deck-Building RPGs!

You can't hold'em OR fold'em; because they're digital!

Here's an interesting blog post about RPGs other the D&D, what they do, and how different systems support and demand different sorts of play. Thirty years ago, this is what I wanted to see one day: lots of story-oriented RPGs on the shelves.

[1/3] I've had a couple of folks give me a hard time lately about "why does a cis dude know about mechsplo", and it shouldn't surprise you that the answer involves indie tabletop RPGs.

If nothing else, openly horny tabletop RPGs are a positive development because the alternative isn't NOT being horny – it's just not admitting that it's a horny thing. If you think nobody was playing "Paranoia" for the D/s vibes in 1988, you're living in a fantasy world.

I'd like that more than another wave of dogshit action games pretending to be rpgs
November 18, 2025 at 5:53 AM
I’m feeling an inverse of that vibe a lot of White Youtubers must have when they watch a Nintendo Direct, see a bunch of Japanese RPGs, and complain, “They’re all the same game!”
The list of eligible podcasts is looking pretty bleak 😟

every time i see someone talk about how clair obscur is the be all and end all of rpgs and that nothing ever has come close to matching it, i consider giving up my material possessions and becoming a missionary dedicated to spreading skies of arcadia to communities

The common idea that people who love clair obscur dont play J/RPGS is SO annoying to me
