I've been playing a lot of #Hytale and enjoying it - congrats on the launch, @hytale.bsky.social ! My favorite thing so far is exploration + points of interest. Really shines already, in a way that no other game like this has done for me ✨ Here's some favorite spots I've found:

It might be helpful right now to remember that collective achievements for the common good are possible. We don’t know the names of everyone who contributed to this and some are probably lost to history. But all of their individual contributions mattered.

Something positive: Spry Fox is spinning out of Netflix. We are independent (once again!) and preparing to launch Spirit Crossing.

We wrote up a little blog post musing about this wild adventure. Worth sharing the good news.

A 16-year-old baby is born! Miracles do happen.
After three years under the Netflix umbrella, Spry Fox is once again a fully independent studio. As a studio, we’ve managed to somehow survive countless industry upheavals and release a whole lot o…

I've been running an indie games studio for 15 years now, and it felt like a good time to boil down what I've learned into 4 pieces of advice:

I hope it's of use, not least because goddamn I forgot how long blog posts take to write.

Here's some more Star Wars stuff made in Planet Coaster 2! I've been having a lot of fun with these; it's basically worldbuilding but just not in a game engine per se.

Hi! I've been a bit MIA on here; I learned a couple weeks ago that my cat is really sick and have been focusing on helping her out. She's more stable now, but it's a progressive thing, so just want to keep her feeling good and happy for as long as she gets <3

least plausible thing in spider man movies is always that he made the suit himself. the tom holland ones are the best in this regard (he makes *a* suit and it sucks) but the better solution would be to make peter parker an avid seamstress. possibly a contestant on project runway

Yep this!! Everything placeholder on Aliens: Fireteam Elite was BRIGHT GLOWING PINK for this reason.
The Palia beta literally had unreal mannequins as NPC placeholders! This is good for development! You do not want overly rendered placeholders, it completely hurts the foundation evaluation of your game. Grayboxing is simple and ugly ON PURPOSE
i know no one likes to talk about blizzard but it's really common knowledge that their alphas, etc. literally have huge placeholder text that says things like "CUTSCENE HERE" or "NPC TEXT" for unfinished or in development cutscenes or dialogue. and idk. that seems like it should remain normal.

This!!
In the more than a decade I have been making games, one of the most consistently (and literal) breath-taking moments in any process is seeing the way a concept artist brings something descriptive and flat to life. That's pure collaboration and trust. The alternative is soulless.

Just got back from a trip to LA and took a bunch of reference at Disneyland - really great ref for pushing details in props, imo! Here's some favorites (a thread):

Doing some concepts for a new personal project idea ... what if you took the decadent art direction of something like Warhammer 40k, but based it on historical Ottoman empire (& specifically Armenian) culture instead of Roman/Western European culture 👀
