My American history teacher was a promising American football player who had won a football scholarship but got polio in the summer before starting college. He needed crutches & later a wheelchair for the rest of his life. The US joining obscurantists like the Taliban in helping polio persist!

My brother got polio as a young boy. I remember kids & adults limping around in calipers due to the ravages of polio. The fear of ending up in an iron lung…And these were the survivors.
