Hello to all the new followers here! I'm Arwen (she/her) and I run the Cardboard Time podcast where I talk about Board Games and conduct interviews. (I'm also known by some for my shelf of aspiration). I thought I'd do a little starter pack for those unfamiliar with my work!

“Unbiased” board game reviews are the last ones to be trusted. Everyone has biases. Far more trustworthy are reviews that acknowledge their influence and bias. It indicates a level of awareness, honesty, and ability to contextualize that hints at more thoughtful and meaningful analysis and review.

I've found a summary statement with new folks of "Please be careful with the food and bev around the table" works absolute wonders.
Do you wanna get a bunch of games out instead of just 1 or 2? Treat people like humans and they'll stay longer.

You can spill a drink near a board game.

It's not something you will want to do, but guess what?

Board games can take it. Just mop things up with a paper towel and everything will be a OK.

Don't ever use "But mah boardgames" as an excuse to deny your guests food and drink. That's being a dick.

When the Rennes en Jeux festival told me I would be receiving a 2026 Lizzie Magie Award for my writing, games, and video work, they asked for a short statement, which was read aloud at a festival event.

This is what I wrote:
Physical games as a form have enormous potential to educate, to persuade, and to express. This belief has guided my work, and is I think at the heart of the Lizzie Magie Awards, so it is incredibly gratifying to have my work recognized in this way. I think if awards have any useful purpose, it is to encourage future works and radical developments within a form. This is particularly needed for board games, which despite its age is just struggling to come out of its infancy - to argue, to challenge, to upset, to touch our hearts. An award should say, "this is what we are capable of today - what will you do tomorrow?" I think by its very nature the Lizzie Magie Award is asking this essential question, and this makes me especially grateful for this recognition of my work. Thank you.

I shared my thoughts about "Keep (your) politics out of (my) boardgames" with @danthurot.bsky.social for @wyrdscience.bsky.social
Brown offers similar insights into the question of politics in games. ‘Players have all kinds of preferences when it comes to games: dice or no dice, three-hour epics or speedy thirty-minute sessions, solitaire or plays-up-to-eight. And people generally don’t say, “Keep dice out of games” or “Stick to making party games,” do they? Certain players seem to confuse their natural right to express preference with a more authoritarian might to police certain content. Because it’s not “politics” but a certain kind of politics that elicits this reaction from a small group. I think the few but loud people who say “Keep politics out of games” are demanding that we all shrink ourselves down to their very narrow, sad view of the world and of power, and doing that would make games way less fun and interesting for the rest of us.’

Sam Healey once again failing a basic character test. He's an absolute millstone around the Dice Towers neck. I wonder if Tom will actually say anything about this or just keep pretending that politics don't matter in the USA these days.
've only been reading over the past day but specifically there was a post yesterday morning regarding a part time employee (Sam Healey) posting content on his public fb and yt page that blamed Alex Pretti for his own death. Concerns were expressed on the gamefound page in a very respectful way about the dice tower relationship with Sam. It was the second most thumbed discussion for the whole project despite being there less than a day. Overnight without explanation it was deleted. There have been other posters commenting about deletions who followed the project closer. They had the same approach during the ace of spades controversy (deleting everything without any acknowledgement)
