I see the “technically it’s ephebophelia” crowd is out today, so just a reminder that A) this is NOT a case where technically correct is the best kind of correct and B) the minute you say this, the gods dump you in the “irredeemable creeper” basket and wash their hands thoroughly after touching you.

My repost was a riff on what I heard our CFO say out in Silicon Valley during the first tech boom--that we didn't necessarily want to show a profit any time soon because then investors would have a P/E ratio to gauge our stock price against; without a ratio, the sky was the limit.

The markets today are like a restaurant where the owners and employees eat first, and the paying customers get cold leftovers if there are any.

Or a casino where the house - institutional investors - always win.

This is a very good case in point - if BlueSky wants to moderate heavily, then moderate heavily, but you gotta hit all the offenders, *especially* the powerful ones

So there is this outside system that we are sort of forced to use. The company is a pain in the ass. There are maybe two admins on campus. it's unclear what they know and I got a request for help with it in May. And, look, can we be honest? I dropped the ball and the person who asked for help...

As will being a genocide survivor. Let's not hurt the feelings of genocide denialists or genocide fans on the good place. What a moderation team.

Gotta be honest, it absolutely sucks watching the same people who call me a groomer just for being trans say that Epstein did nothing wrong because his victims were teenagers.

PEOPLE WOULD RATHER THEIR KIDS BE RAPED THAN BE TRANS.

And it is INFURIATING.

It bears remembering that this woman, according to the IPCA report, sent at least 36 emails to media outlets, presumaby including NZME, as well as the PM, Police Minister, and police command in Dec 2023 & Jan 2024, and they did fuck-all about it too

Perspective with Heather du Plessis-Allan: The woman in the Jevon McSkimming saga wasn't innocent here
So it turns out the woman with whom Jevon McSkimming had an affair, whose warnings police ignored and who police charged instead of investigating McSkimmin

'Matt Gaetz Raped A Homeless Teenager' is what you mean.

A teenager with a homeless parent? What? The fuck? Did she have a home and not allow her parent to live in it? Ended up having sex with? What? Yeah clearly you guys been caping for pedos long enough and you understand the assignment here
A teenager in Florida with a homeless parent wanted money for braces and ended up having sex for money with powerful men, setting off a chain of events that would have a dramatic impact on her life and help upend the political career of Representative Matt Gaetz. nyti.ms/49PSkL9

These periodic threads are both universal in their delight and also very very Aotearoa. They make me both happy and homesick for my other home and all my chosen whānau there
🧵Spotted While Roaming In Aotearoa New Zealand:

A young human (8?) is crouched in front of a white picket fence, clutching a super soaker to his chest.
He tenses, then...
JUMPS UP
and sprays his little brother who's sleeping on the porch.
GOTCHA!
Little Brother roaring vengeance.

One of the reasons people--myself included--are upset is the lack of transparency from the Times about this entire situation when they've gone on endless crusades against transgender people on flimsy evidence or ideological whim; we can also talk about the Mamdani/Columbia thing or Claudine Gay.
"I'm a rando who prefers to believe that everything is a conspiracy and am happy to tell women that I know better than she does how their literal job works" That a news org makes an editorial decision you wouldn't (or I wouldn't) doesn't mean someone is killing a story on behalf of a powerful person
"I write for the New York Times, and I can assure you that we've never buried stories on behalf of powerful people, many of those powerful people being part of NYT management. We only publish what's fit to print, like Zohran's application to Columbia that was leaked by a white nationalist"
