🎶 I also will decry AI and all its many tentacles
The harms I list that fawners miss I read out like a canticle
It steals our data and our art but claims the theft’s defensible
Investment in the slop machine remains, for me, nonsensical 🎶

Apropos of nothing: now would be a real cool time for the CNCF to realize that North America includes both Mexico and Canada and decide that KubeCon NA can be somewhere other than the US

Just a thought

thundergolfer.com/blog/aws-us-... I think is a much better outage summary than the one that AWS published. I understand the time pressure AWS was under to get something out, but I found the initial report to be quite baroque and hard to comprehend.

📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms).

It’s also concerning. 1/
PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.

The number of people who didn’t know what us-east-1 was on Sunday and are suddenly experts in running multi-region distributed systems at scale today is truly remarkable.

@martindotnet.bsky.social put out a banger of a post on LinkedIn. now is the time for hugops, not saying "skill issue, I would have simply designed better" or trying to sell your architecture cleanup/design/consulting skills.

I don't want public servants who don't understand how emails work and politicians who use this to tell pathetic lies about the FOI system regulating the use of the internet. The standard of public representation in communications policy is through the floor, and it's been Labor's level for decades.

Oh my god. The scale models kept imploding so he's like "don't worry I have a new manufacturing method that will stop these implosions" and they're like "should we test a scale model built with this new method" and he's like "no no just try it on the real sub I'm sure it'll work"

Learned that an anonymous outside expert on submersibles did an interview with the OceanGate Titan investigation, and they released a transcript, with all the names redacted. The first line of his first answer? "I'm sure you're familiar with my film Titanic."

Maybe 10 years ago on the failed hellsite I posted about how much toasters all sucked and an acquaintance replied “well they should really use optical albedo sensors”.

The madlads at Breville finally commercialised a toaster that measures the toast directly. Maybe there is some hope for the future.

quick question for davinci resolve perverts (complimentary):

is there a way to include the macOS color tags that are on a video in the metadata on a media pool import that I’m missing? it would speed things up so much to have that info hit the ground running but i can’t find anything for it
