In 2006 a high school English teacher asked students to write to a famous author & ask for advice.
KURT VONNEGUT - born 103yrs ago today - was the only one to respond.
His reply was a doozy.

When I was on Isle Royale I was obsessed shipwrecks around the island. The Edmund Fitzgerald kicked off my love of history as a kid but I also love the small stories. Like the sinking of the Grampa Woo near the Passage Island Light, right along the way the Fitz passed 50 years ago.

Shut us down for good reason.
Open back up without any of those reasons having been fixed.
You want us to have confidence in you?
You want us to think YOU can lead US?
Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to have a chance to be back.. but our pain produced nothing in return.

Americans showed up in historic numbers last week and proved they're willing to back a party that stands up to Donald Trump.
We cannot have the leader of our party be a man that caves to Trump over and over again. It's long past time for Schumer step aside.

Senator Schumer has failed to lead this party in one of its most critical moments, and Americans will pay the price. It’s time for him to step down from leadership and make way for a new generation willing to fight for the people instead of the powerful.

I’m a National Park Service ranger and I’ve been out of work for more than a month. It’s been devastating. I’ve put $3,000 on my credit card just for student loans and other bills- but it was worth it to guarantee people got the healthcare we needed. And…Schumer just threw all that away.
Democrats have been fighting for months to address America's healthcare crisis
For the millions who will lose coverage
For people with cancer who won't get the care they need
For working families who can't afford to pay $25K more a year for healthcare
We will keep fighting

Dear Democratic Senators: if you vote for this selling out of the ACA it will be the end of your careers. Depend upon it. You are there to defend this country against Trump and the fascists, not collude with them. If you become Quislings, you will forever REMAIN Quislings

The truth is not "more nuanced," the truth is that none of these people are narco terrorists.
GÜIRIA, Venezuela (AP) — One was a fisherman struggling to eke out a living on $100 a month. Another was a career criminal. A third was a former military cadet. And a fourth was a down-on-his-luck bus driver.

FOX: So you would ask Speaker Johnson to recall the House?
GOP REP. KEVIN KILEY: Not only would I, I've asked him to do it repeatedly. There's no justification. And honestly, it's Republican voters who should be most upset about this when they delivered a GOP majority and now that's being wasted

We are in this weird situation where we would prefer they not think they are going to prison, because it means they are more likely to give up power peacefully. But they also need to go to prison, and we need to build a consensus around that point

"World's first potential trillionaire has killed 600,000 people, including 400,000 children" is the only headline that anyone should ever read about Elon Musk
One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc

Congratulations to Mary Sheffield on her historic win to become Detroit’s next mayor, and the FIRST woman to ever lead the city. Mary’s leadership in Detroit and commitment to our community is inspiring.
So proud to celebrate this moment for Detroit, for women, and for the future of Michigan.
