Federal police raided Dissent Bar in Canberra and stripped anti-fascist posters off the walls under Labor's brand new hate speech laws. Not a Nazi compound. A local café with political art. This is what biased laws look like in practice. 🧵

Peter Goldsworthy calls the scheduling explanation why Thomas Friedman did not appear at Adelaide Writers Week as "BS".

Thoughts were that "If only Friedman had a platform on which he could have called this out."
Guess the New York Times just doesn't have the reach.

We don't hate Jews or Judaism, Greg.

We hate genocide. We hate apartheid. We hate ethnic cleansing. We hate racism. We hate war. We hate terrorism. We hate settler-colonialism. We hate all these things that Israel was and is guilty of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

We want Israel to stop.

The dishonest campaign against Louise Adler from the right-wing press is pretty good evidence that the interest of newspaper editors in a Royal Commission has little or nothing to do with protecting Jewish participation in Australian public life and everything to do with silencing dissent

Too true
Not one person has lost their job or been forced to apologise for supporting Israel’s genocide.

You can support the mass murder of Muslims & you will never be in danger of losing your job in media or politics or the arts or business or education.

Suggest Israel are wrong, & you will be targeted.

Wonder why there has been a huge reaction?
In the 65 year history of the Adelaide Writers Festival, this appears to be the first time a writer has been officially dropped.
On all other occasions the Board has stood by its invited authors, even amid backlash from outside interests.
