Excited to go to the zinefest tomorrow. Been thinking about joy, marathon vs sprint, and the process of building the world we want after this, working toward a hopeful future

As businesses close in the Twin Cities, people shelter in their homes, and take action to avoid active surveillance by federal law enforcement, the perception of safety becomes so obvious as a rhetorical device. And it's so separate from actual danger, actual harm or potential harm.

This is a thread full of good points, but of course I'm biased. It's wild to me that marketing teams for newspapers don't fully embrace this angle for getting new customers.
If you’re trying not to overload on news, may I suggest: A Daily Newspaper?

A Daily Newspaper provides the biggest news in a digestible chunk (if it is an Alden Global Media paper, it will take you like eight minutes a day). (1/)

The fantasy version of "decentralized" is a world where everyone is somehow communicating, deciding, & taking action as individuals yet magically coordinated. The reality is a massive venn diagram of overlapping groups (formal & informal) building trust through common cause, effort, & experience.

"I find myself wondering if I still have a home here in Minnesota, in America, in the world of the people who get to decide who is valuable and who is not, who belongs and who does not, who lives and who dies."

I've talked to people on the ground about the strike here tomorrow, and the single thing everyone brings up is just how shockingly wide the support for the strike is. Businesses that no one would have expected to support it are doing so.
National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

I had my first X-ray this month and immediately thought you should be able to get them recreationally
It's so stupid that X rays are bad for you. We should be able to use X rays whenever we want

Lot of well-earned no. 1 awards for Metro in this thread, but the bus operators absolutely deserve this accolade too!
Where would we be without bus operators? Probably still at the stop, late for work…

People are protesting across the world all the time, but we often don't have a good spot to share this in print. A sample of some from today:

I love sitting down and working on my silly little novel that will not be literary even a tiny bit. I'm making maps of all the made up places. All the food will be described in intense detail. I'm going to publish it in a tiny little edition and it's so much fun
