They've convinced themselves that watching Guns of Navarone, Dads Army, and reading Commando comics gives them special insight into living through WWII.
It just dawned on me that one reason I find the generational chasm between Boomers and Millennials so enervating is that we're being lectured about our lack of Blitz Spirit by a generation who didn't live through it when this era is arguably more analogous to the Gilded Age and Great Depression.

The police exist primarily to protect themselves, the powerful, and the wealthy.
Sun up the level of rot in British police in one paragraph:

These are crimes against humanity. None of us is capable of truly internalizing suffering at this scale. Elon Musk and many other members of the Trump Administration should be put on trial at The Hague.

I keep seeing regular Americans taking more risks every day to fight tyranny, want, and cynicism than I see from the opposition party, and I imagine many of those regular Americans are asking themselves what the value proposition of such an opposition party is, really

Been in touch with a medical provider in Gaza who says “this ceasefire is even less of a ceasefire than the last ceasefire” — nothing’s getting in, no one’s getting out, people are still being killed and badly injured every day
“Israeli soldiers have described a free-for-all in Gaza and a breakdown in norms and legal constraints, with civilians killed at the whim of individual officers.”

The stories will get worse over time as censorship erodes. But we knew and didn’t stop it.

I’d settle for media outlets that don’t e.g. pretend to be terrified that the police are racistly banning fascist football fans to curry favour with Muslims, because doing that is a handy distraction from the genocide everyone has either been ignoring or enabling. Doesn’t seem like a big ask.

Yes, although 'Fuck Off Labour' works for me.
Between Mamdani’s win in NYC and Labour being overtaken by the Greens in polling, establishment politicians are getting washed by a new generation for whom political communication entails stating what you actually believe, clearly, rather than interminable recourse to three-word slogans.
I regret to inform you it's now Week 2 of Reform-curious Labour MP Mike Tapp trying to soft launch his new slogan ("Firm, Fair, For Britain")

When Orbán took power in 2010, Hungary's population was a little over 10 million. It's now just over 9.5 million and still falling.
incredible that these guys have a massive hard on for a country that, if it were a state, would rank behind kansas in terms of wealth and which would be a total backwater if it weren’t economically integrated with more functional countries

Duncan talks shite. Total amount of water charges paid when living in Scotland, where Scottish Water is a publicly-owned utility: £0.00 per year. Currently living in England and paying £36.00 per month (£432.00 per year) to a privately-owned water company. Can't switch if I don't like their service.
There is ample evidence that privatized public services are strangling households and extracting obscene profits off citizens. And there's shit in your water.
There is zero evidence that nationalising public services would lower bills. Detail on exactly how this would work, and exactly what this wealth tax would look like, are also terribly thin on the ground. I rather suspect that, dear heart, is why people are calling you "vibes".

“The greatest country, the richest country, is not that which has the most capitalists, monopolists, immense grabbings, vast fortunes, with its sad, sad soil of extreme, degrading, damning poverty, but the land...where wealth does not show such contrasts high and low..."
Early this morning, our city still plunged into darkness, I set off to walk the Brooklyn Bridge.

As the sun came up, we were joined by canvassers, labor leaders, elected officials, and working people — a movement to bring a new day to our city.

Tomorrow, we win it together.

And another example of where those voters chose not to line up behind the Labour candidate.
Another nice example of centre and left votes lining up behind the best candidate to beat Reform.
Bromsgrove South (Worcestershire) Council By-Election Result:

🔶 LDM: 51.9% (+20.3)
➡️ RFM: 33.4% (-1.5)
🌳 CON: 11.3% (-5.8)
🌹 LAB: 3.4% (-4.1)

No GRN (-5.5) or Ind (-3.4) as previous.

Liberal Democrat GAIN from Reform.
Changes w/ 2025.
