Few shows in 2025 where i saw ‘vfx is bad’ criticism on shows where i thought it looked pretty good when i watched ot. Not sure if its motion smoothing /other settings people have or if people are only seeing selective screenshots online where someone up’d the brightness on purpose

In fantasy you don’t need stuff like regular sun or moon. It could be giant dragon egg or a portal to a realm of fire stuck in the sky. You can take the whole god carries it across the sky literally. Its fantasy you can make it weird

I think my least fav criticism is ‘main characters have plot armour’. When not every show is going to kill off the heroes and make them lose at the end. Sometimes most main characters survive to the end

Extremism isn’t fringe on the right. Once marginal online extremists like Yarvin are influential at the highest levels of government.

Oh my goodness, this Wall Street Journal piece about Trump's ailing health that includes an interview with him (gift link). There are a number of ridiculous details in it and I'll put a few of them in this thread. (1/6)
Exclusive | As Signs of Aging Emerge, Trump Responds With Defiance
In an interview, President Trump—the oldest man to assume the office—said he has eschewed some advice from his doctors and regrets getting advanced imaging.

I know I’m stating the obvious and often repeated here but having known more blood and soil Americans than I’ve cared to, the fact that Miller thinks he can count on Jews being allowed into his American ethnonation is just so wild to me.
Trump and Stephen Miller are actually failing in crucial ways. Deportations are lagging behind their goals, courts are mostly functioning, and their fascist, ethnonationalist cruelties have unleashed a countermobilization of unexpected scope and power.

New from me:

So we just accept this then? This is a legitimate use of technology going forward? This vile individual's account is just prompt after prompt asking Al to alter real-life images of women. The law needs to catch up with technology now - because we can't trust these tech companies to police themselves

And I recently have been writing about the GC's continued legal losses, and how they are trying to bully people into following their misrepresentations of the law. Including organisations such as Girl Guides and the Women's Institute who *want* to remain trans inclusive.

This gives a good overview.
The WI and Girlguiding have been pressured to exclude trans women – yet the law is clear as mud | Jess O’Thomson
Since the supreme court decision, organisations have faced lobbying and legal threats. But trans people are protected by discrimination law too, says Jess O’Thomson of the Good Law Project

It’s a terrific spectacle - but the costs are appalling. Amsterdam’s lovely Vondelkerk was destroyed. A child killed in Nijmegen and a man in Rotterdam, and another shot by police in Utrecht. Hundreds hospitalized, and dozens of children with eye injuries, including a 5 year old. Madness, really.
