Cook County deputies, Illinois State Police, and Broadview police just arrested at least 8 to 10 people, including several faith leaders.

State police in riot gear now arriving.

Here in Broadview, outside Chicago, a large group of faith leaders & protesters have gathered this morning outside of ICE’s detention center.

This looks like one of the largest protests on Beach St. in weeks, where the city of Broadview is still enforcing a small “free speech” zone. It’s packed.

And we knew this. This wasn't speculation. We studied it, we had the talking points. We trained volunteers to explain this to people. It's not a surprise. Rich people don't flee places with good quality of life when we increase the quality of life. They might try to cheat us, but they don't leave.

Thatcher's government did this with Section 28, banned the "promotion of homosexuality" as a danger to children, while actively protecting Jimmy Savile and who knows how many other pedophiles. It's the same damn playbook.
I cannot begin to properly articulate how upsetting it is to have had people baselessly accuse trans people of being groomers and pedophiles only for it to come out that they were deliberately doing this as part of a project to provide cover to actual groomers and pedophiles in positions of power

when you understand that patriarchy views children as sexual property it all makes sense. there's no hypocrisy. exposure to queerness & transness threatens to "corrupt" the father's property, to "lead them astray" into self-determination, to taint their future sexual value. CSA is permissible as >

Nothing says ‘labour party is a working class party’ than one if its lords and influential advisors partying with Tory austerity king. This is why labour is just tory politics now

If politics will ever be better the ‘masters of the dark arts’ in it need to get caught pissing in the streets and get towards paying the backlog of debt that the consequences of their actions. Instead of lordships, book deals, and podcasts (can lords be stripped of their titles?)

To explain: "Kabbalah" is a term referring to a wide array of mystic practices and texts in Judaism, but antisemites have LONG used it as an example of Judaic secretiveness and evil

Ergo describing some evil secret group as a "cabal"

Anyway, now you know

It's a losing battle, but I really want people to stop using the term "cabal" to describe Epstein's circle

The whole matter is already so tricky when it comes to antisemitism that adding an antisemitic term to your critique doesn't really help matters

But whatever, no one cares

A basic lesson about oppressive systems: As they continue, they inevitably cost even the oppressors to maintain. Every time they're enacted it's for short-sighted benefits before then they fossilize into a societal feature maintained via inertia and prejudice even after all gains inevitably dry up.

Rosy views of the '70s aren't unique to the right though.
