Not sure how bad the deepfake problem is? Read Stella's farewell thread.

This is an extreme form of remote sexual harassment that can now be used to target anyone, regardless of platform, in seconds. Despite news stories focusing mostly on CSAM it's still unchecked and rampant on Twitter.
I‘m discontinuing my social media use for the foreseeable future and I want to explain why.

I woke up in the new year to discover that some guy on here had saved photos I took on New Year’s Eve and used Grok to remove my clothes. I know this because he showed me.

The defining difference between men’s dress shirts and women’s is that it is apparently impossible to find cotton that is suitable for making dress shirts for women that isn’t as thin as a piece of rice paper

The legal assessment of the US intervention is not, in fact, complex
Let me sum up the reaction of the German government:
International law applies when our enemies violate it, it’s that simple.

This should set off alarm bells: states must unequivocally condemn this act of aggression and impose sanctions on the United States to uphold international law and prevent its further erosion. This is not a drill. 2/2

So Trump has said he is going to go in and "run" Venezuela and that US companies will have the country's oil reserves divvied up between them. After he kidnapped their president and his wife. That's where we're at, and we're going to maintain normal diplomatic relations with this man?

Maar nee, Nederland moet nog even afwachten of we het aandurven om te zeggen dat het illegaal en onacceptabel is om zomaar andere landen aan te vallen

NEW: Plans for secret U.S. raid to capture Maduro leaked to the Washington Post and New York Times before it happened, but both decided not to publish to protect U.S. troops - Semafor

For nonlawyers, it’s worth noting that statements like this have—as a formal matter—important legal effects as a matter of international law. If such statements are *not* made, and in volume, future arguments that Trump’s invasion sets a legal precedent will stand on much firmer legal ground.
Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide: "International law is universal and binding for all states. The American intervention in Venezuela is not in accordance with international law."

So the same goes for people with international indictments who live in a stately residence in tel aviv then?
Vance pushes back and says this was not illegal, arguing "Maduro has multiple indictments in the United States for narcoterrorism. You don't get to avoid justice for drug trafficking in the United States because you live in a palace in Caracas."

I fear we are going to have to say this a lot again:

Int law prohibits bombing countries for the sake of democracy. FOR VERY GOOD REASON. It tends not to work.

Attacking a country because its leader lacks legitimacy - whether as pretext or sincerely held rationale - is still just an aggression.
Remember that there is a legitimately elected president of Venezuela: Edmundo Gonzalez. He won the election in 2024.

Add this new masterpiece to the collection of meaningless statements of EU representatives for foreign affairs. The EU digging its own grave, over and over. Lack of leadership? Lack of common values and principles? Just cowardice? No clue.
Under all circumstances, the principles of international law and the UN Charter must be respected. We call for restraint.

The safety of EU citizens in the country is our top priority. (2/2)

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

Art 21(1) TEU provides that the Union’s action on the international scene shall be guided by respect for the UN Charter and international law principles. Why's there not a word of condemnation of US act of aggression—nor even an expression of "concern"? Call things by their name or lose credibility.
