Humans will NEVER colonize another planet. Never.

If we can’t even agree to do the minimum to keep Earth habitable, there’s no way in hell we’ll cooperate to make another planet habitable.

as an american enduring a fascist takeover, looking across the pond, it really seems to me like keir starmer is a fascist pretending to be a liberal so that he can advance longstanding fascist goals with the approval of polite society
‘Starmer plans electronic ID cards for all to help stop UK boat migrants’

I can’t believe this nonsense is back again. A Trojan Horse policy that hoodwinks all of us into accepting deeply problematic ID cards that won’t remotely impact asylum numbers.

Many of you still don't get how these Gaza fundraisers came about & that they are more about you than about Palestinians in Gaza. I keep explaining this in every podcast I've been on lately...but let me write a thread as well: These fundraisers exist to snuff out your relationship with Palestinians

Making a 5-second AI video requires more energy than running a microwave for an hour
So…about AI’s energy use…

“…to create a five-second video, a newer AI model uses ‘about 3.4 million joules, more than 700 times the energy required to generate a high-quality image’. That's the equivalent of running a microwave for over an hour.”
Report: Creating a 5-second AI video is like running a microwave for an hour
That's a long time in the microwave.

Honestly FUCK LABOR for not using the last 3 years to protect our environment.

They promised us real action on climate & environment but increased fossil fuel subsidies & collaborated with the LNP to weaken environmental protections. Absolute betrayal of voters.

The promise of AI in education is it will save educators time. That's rubbish. It's sapping all our time already in working groups, committees, workshops, and marking anxiety. It's the most time-sapping, exhausting and frankly boring thing I've ever encountered in HE - and it's in my research area.
