Not actually meat. (See MST3K episode "Space Mutiny")
@heynowdana.com loved the Coolio -> Weird Al -> Stevie Wonder set! First time I've ever heard Stevie's original on the radio.

@cityplannerplays.bsky.social you've mentioned Denver in your videos before. Interesting piece on how street names and a break in the grid point to a never-built 19th century enclave: www.cpr.org/2026/01/26/d...
Streets in Denver’s Highlands neighborhood tell a story about a Scottish-inspired dream
A handful of curved streets is what’s left of a vision for the hilly area north of the original city limits.

@gruber.foo hope you write about Tim Cook attending the Melania screening at the White House.

My most generous interpretation: Cook is trying to stay on Trump’s good side for the sake of Apple’s massive workforce.

(But it also signals that he/Apple support Trump. Which, given MN, is astonishing)

Apple: Here, use some AI
Scrivener: I would prefer not to.
Not satisfied with just destroying their own brand goodwill, OS companies are now using AI to try to destroy the good names of the apps users install. (Scrivener taking out adds to explain how it has no AI but Apple adds some anyway.)

@recdiffs.bsky.social they're blaming the dog again!
A man in Pennsylvania had been cleaning a shotgun and placed it on the bed. Officers were informed that “a dog had jumped up onto the bed, causing the shotgun to go off, which openly struck the male.”
Dog Accidentally Shoots and Injures a Pennsylvania Man, Police Say
The man had been cleaning a shotgun and placed it on the bed shortly before it was fired. He received treatment at an area hospital.

It’s telling that this is about an isolated thinking being, not in relationship, not loving. It’s a counterfeit of the promise of the fruit in Genesis: you will be as God, but in isolation.

This is the most accurate depiction of the Midwest to date. Wichita has always felt like the last Midwest city while also being the first plains city.

@hotdogsladies.bsky.social I finally got Tom Parker's Rules of Thumb. I enjoyed it for a few minutes before my middle-schoolers stole it and read it cover-to-cover. Fun book! Thanks for the recommendation.

And now I know how to estimate the age of a lobster (multiply weight in pounds by seven)

As a Christian, I feel I am being persecuted for my beliefs. (I believe it’s a sin to worship a pedophile as your god king and force everyone else to do the same through intimidation and deliberately mendacious propaganda.)

NEW: Colorado Gov. Polis executive order on COVID vaccines. It effectively grants a prescription to whoever wants the vaccine, allowing them to get vaccinated without a doctor visit.

State-regulated health plans would be required to cover the cost. Some employer health plans may not have to.

@aurich.bsky.social hoping Condé did not inflict this on the fine folks at Ars
The 1994 Vogue assistant editor oral entrance exam.

I teach a class on magazine writing / publishing every fall (in which the students make a magazine) and am going to have them create their own, updated, Gen Z equivalent.
