Bernal Heights neighbors demanded and got a smaller building. Now they say it shouldn’t cut a private park in half. This wasn’t meant to happen.

The Trump admin is scrambling because the secret police it sends out for kidnappings and rioting has been killing people on video then brazenly lying about it, but Schumer's instinct is to whip his caucus into taking a position *more conservative* than that held by the median voter.

He's got to go.
Majority of the country now wants to abolish and/or dismantle ICE and yet Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. told the caucus the message had to be to “restrain, reform and restrict ICE.”

Once again it looks like Schumer is about to choke after getting a massive opportunity.

So pathetic and weak.
Senate Democrats plot strategy as DHS standoff deepens heading into shutdown week
Two sources who were on a Democratic caucus strategy call Sunday said Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told the group the message must be to “restrain, reform and restrict ICE.”

The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced the Democrats have to push their hand immediately. The parallels with the delays and subsequent failures after January 6th are blaring warning signs about what will happen if they don’t go after the issues with ICE and CBP at the root RIGHT NOW.

All of this happened with basically no help from elected officials of the opposition party. This was entirely the people.

One of my maybe-hottest takes post-2024 election is that nearly every federal elected official should face a serious primary challenge every time they run for office. Especially the President, but Congress, too.

It's good to make officials earn your support.

Bill Kristol is making a clearer case for what Democrats can and should do in the minority than Chuck Schumer or Hakeem Jeffries ever has
AND IMPEACH AND REMOVE.

We need to clamor for that even if the votes aren't there—yet.

TFW Bill fucking Kristol is better than the opposition party leadership
Also, may I say that I don’t agree with people saying ICE and CBP need “more training.” They’re doing exactly what this administration has trained them to—impose a reign of fear in blue cities. They don’t need more training. They need to be ripped up root and branch.

If you won’t commit to removing Jeffries as house leader, you have no chance of getting my vote, my donation, or my volunteer time for your congressional campaign.
Memory is a fragile thing in this moment, so it is important to keep in mind that Hakeem Jeffries refused to whip his caucus against ICE funding earlier this week.

Democrats can and must make it clear there will be trials and anyone even somewhat associated with ICE will face them. Maybe give a quit-your-job deadline on appeasement and give people 72 hours. I don't know. But currently the plan is to let them murder us in the street and get away with it.
January 24, 2026 at 6:53 PM
Imagine if, instead of ubiquitous fundraising texts or emails, the Democratic Party would send some texts and emails promoting protests, general strikes, etc?

Instead of a shadow cabinet to counter Trump, we need a shadow Dem leadership to counter Jeffries and Schumer.
There is *no* functioning Dem leadership at this point. Jeffries and Schumer need to go NOW if our nation is to have any chance.

Honestly: if you won't commit to removing Jeffries and Schumer, you don't deserve votes in a primary. That's becoming a red line for me.
We have to get rid of Jeffries and Schumer. We have to. It’s unendurable that these men are the most prominent Democrats of the moment. They are two of the most broadly undistinguished men I could imagine in politics, zero fire, zero fight, zero zeal, machine politicians with sinecures.
