@d9neighbors.bsky.social
We champion the creation of more housing in Bernal Heights, the Mission, the Portola, and St. Mary’s Park—the neighborhoods we call home. Find out how you can join us: https://www.d9neighbors.com/
Towards the end of the night there was some much-needed comedy time with @throgers.bsky.social, who brought a laugh while reminding people that we need housing and the FZP can help deliver it!
Comment 129: Thomas speaking in support of Family Zoning, originally arrived here in the 1900s haha. Met his spouse here and is raising his kid here, wants more people to be able to tell that story, the FZP can make that happen
October 21, 2025 at 6:54 PM
@bpinsf.bsky.social, who stayed in Room 250 from the beginning until the bitter end! And spoke as a lover of San Francisco who wants to live around his family (imagine that!)
Comment 112: Brandon with D9 Neighbors for Housing, unabashed lover of San Francisco, it’s a wonderful place to be, but his other family members cannot afford to live here compared to Denver or St. Louis.

We need to do much better and build more housing
October 21, 2025 at 6:53 PM
Fearless D9N leader @serogers.bsky.social on what makes a city great!
Comment 109: Sarah Rogers with D9 Neighbors For Housing in strong support. People who work here should be able to live here, people should be able to move as their life situations change, we shut off the ability to enjoy the landmarks of tomorrow if we don’t build today
October 21, 2025 at 6:52 PM
@lala-wu.bsky.social on generational housing needs!
Comment 105: Lala from D9 Neighbors For Housing speaking in support, talks about how she loves being able to raise her daughter here in Bernal, and how her parents came as immigrants and had opportunity that she just doesn’t see here these days
October 21, 2025 at 6:51 PM
Meg Rudy on how the status quo is killing us!
Comment 101: another D9 Neighbors member who is speaking in support, talks about moving here from North Carolina feeling like coming home due to her husband’s family roots here. But staying here is hard to imagine if we don’t change the status quo and build more homes
October 21, 2025 at 6:50 PM
Kate Voshell, D9 Neighbors lead, with more inconvenient facts!
Comment 100: Kate, a D9 Neighbors for Housing member, being short and sweet, how did we get here? We got her because the board downzoned San Francisco in 1978 with dire consequences
October 21, 2025 at 6:50 PM
@ruthferguson.bsky.social with some inconvenient facts!
Comment 82: Ruth Ferguson in the house. Talks about how her sister lives in a rent-controlled duplex and how she is one of the lucky ones who has stability, but it can’t just be about who is lucky. San Francisco downzoned in 1978 and we’ve seen the harmful impacts
October 21, 2025 at 6:48 PM
Yes yes yes!
Comment 81: another D9 resident talking about how we get to a diverse and livable city, we need to say yes to more homes, and we have to figure out how to do that. The market alone won’t do it, we need multiple options of course
October 21, 2025 at 6:47 PM
No name but....this is probably one of our members who likes free pony metaphors 😆
Comment 80: a speaker in support (shoutout to Bernal Heights), highlighting the tensions of how housing has skyrocketed in value but it’s just developers who speculate, proposes that all new units come with a free pony if we tack on unrealistic expectations
October 21, 2025 at 6:47 PM
What do we want? More opportunity! When do we want it? Now!
Comment 69: another speaker in D9 who is in support of the benefits of bringing more opportunity to more neighborhoods throughout San Francisco
October 21, 2025 at 6:45 PM
Go Dan!
Speaker 47: Dan from District 9, who first moved here in 1989, talks about how exciting it was when he moved here, misses that energy, it’s too expensive to live here, and that’s why we need the Family Zoning Plan
October 21, 2025 at 6:44 PM
Thank you @wafoli.bsky.social for live-tweeting these proceedings. It's a ton of work! Our members made a strong showing yesterday to speak in favor of the Family Zoning Plan - reposts of our comments to follow!
Look alive, the Board of Supervisors Land Use and Transportation committee has been called to order. Room 250 is already full for the Family Zoning Plan

HUGE HOUSING NEWS: The Assembly just passed our bill allowing more homes near public transportation, SB 79!

We need more housing & we need it near transit. It’ll reduce traffic congestion & carbon emissions & increase transit ridership & affordability.

Go housing! Go transit!

@mahdirahimi.bsky.social biked across town at top speed after work just to give that comment!
Speaker 150: was at home and couldn’t bear being on the sidelines, Mahdi is in strong support of this plan, appreciates all the work that has gone into it

We love housing and we love festive shirts!
Speaker #76: another @d9neighbors.bsky.social member (you can tell by the festive shirts) in support, if we continue to oppose housing, people will continue to be forced out of the city
September 12, 2025 at 3:27 AM
Yes, add Bernal to the Family Zoning Plan please!
Speaker #75: another speaker from Bernal Heights (they yearn to be added), talks about how many people don’t understand the depth of the housing crisis if they bought a lot time ago, how people used to just make it work, and that’s not the case for young people today
September 12, 2025 at 3:27 AM
She was!
Speaker #71: @serogers.bsky.social sorry I missed you but I’m sure you were fire like usual!

Speaker #69: Ruth Ferguson talking about the toll not building housing has had on a young person she recently talked with, about how we have argued but not taken action to actually solve our housing shortage

So proud of our members who showed up in force to support this plan at City Hall! #SFFamilyZoning Thank you @wafoli.bsky.social for live-threading the proceedings
*cracks knuckles* we are out here at Planning to support the Family Zoning Plan. It’s the next item up. We were already counterprotested at the rally this morning, so expect a rowdy crowd and lots of comment

Excellent, concise explainer about Builder’s Remedy by @d9neighbors.bsky.social ! Worth a watch AND ALSO a share to your circles.

Aside, not being a D9 resident, it’s amazing how vocal this advocacy group has been about bringing housing to Bernal. D8 could learn a thing or two from y’all! 😻

"We cannot continue to claim we support affordable housing while ensuring it is virtually impossible to build it in our backyards."
