I love outlook reactions, something about sending off your dissertation title submission and instead of getting some automated formal rendition of 'yeah this checks out you're good' getting 'philosophy dept reacted 👍' is so funny

me: see my dissertation proposal is based on the premise that if you were congenitally deafblind you'd lack auditory + visual mental reps due to lacking the associated senses, and so thus strong embodiment-

my diss supervisor has the same name as me, loves cats, and had the same philo mind fixations at undergrad that I have now

I'm being supervised by the version of myself I aspire to be as a (hopefully) future academic

the fact of looking after a vulnerable adult, a cat, a whole house and keeping up with my uni work for a meagre 6/12 days so far that I'm due to do so adds a lot more weight to the existing heavy reality the words 'future power of attourney' already bear

brother care + keeping up with readings amounts to

my bro: what are you reading
me: gramsci
my bro: can you read it to me
me: *in the most treacherously exaggerated brummie accent known to man* this eelaboraytion muhst and can aownly bee puhformed in thuh context ov thuh histr'y ov phulosofee

I read the 'people' & 'research focus' pages of uni philosophy depts for masters applications like I'm looking at the insta page of someone I have a crush on & nothing makes me go 'teehee' like 'we have a particular interest in social philosophy/non-reductive physicalist accounts of mind'

Bertrand Russell's message to future generation is so relevant: look for the truth and the facts that support it and DON'T BE DIVERTED BY WHAT YOU WISH TO BELIEVE ...

I think dostoevsky would've liked free improv- emergence of process > existence of product and all that jazz (literal, sometimes, in the case of the roots of free improv music) #philsky

"the lack of consensus about terminology & principles of classification [for outlining embodied cognition] generates some important ambiguities" well thank goody it's not just me who gets confused when I look into EC and get hit with 'embodied cognition aka 4E which is actually many more than 4 Es'

the internet tendency to shame people for reading books in public period makes me press my book into my lap and hide like I'm harbouring a pet on an airplane I don't want some random weirdo taking a photo of me and going 'look at this pretentious son of a gun being literate smh'
this is such a shitty thing to do to people trying to read a book, jesus christ
I'm seeing a social media trend where people are sneaking pics of men reading books in public and making fun of them as "performative males"

And while I love a good dunk, I don't think you guys want men to be reading even less than they are now. Just saying

People also use this analogy about guns. So let’s treat chatgpt (and guns) like cars: you need a license, you need to carry insurance, and the industry is highly regulated.
A neighbor beamed about using chatgpt all the time for his work. I told him about the suicide issues. His response: people die in cars all the time but we still keep driving

writing an essay for university will never be as anxiety inducing as beginning to co-write a paper for an actual journal with a philosophy bud who, yknow, has an actual PhD and sure I got some conceptual engineering and gender and social epistemology insights to give but Idon'tevenhaveafulldegreeyet

Had an absolute blast volunteering for the first time with CAMRA at the GBBF and at my first beer festival, really inclusive community sound people also got to have a nerdy ramble about language limits consciousness & beer tasting taking pub philosophy quite literally 😂

Some of the bottles of rice and formula and flour Egyptians threw into the sea have actually made it to Gaza - now people in Cyprus and Lebanon are joining the effort, with scientists from all over the world virtually assisting them in figuring the time and location to do so based on the currents. 💚

working on a scepticism 'beat the demon' type interactive fiction game using twine to try and make the theoretical content of the 'limits of knowledge' section of the a-level a little less intimidating and fun lemme tell you it's gonna take me weeks but it'll be so worth it

think I'm gonna have to just hole up in my room and cry for 3 days when I finish mary a fiction I had time to read the first 2 short, short chapters today between looking after my brother and I already felt my gut wrENCH this is too close to home in many many many ways and thoughts and experiences

so pumped, my summer philosophy fic reads have arrived! I've wanted to read wollstonecraft for a couple years ever since I read about her in 'philosophy queens' and immediately projected on a personal level- my uncle rec'd 'the black prince' to me recently also & I've never read murdoch so yay!
