It’s so nice to feel at home on the internet again!

Follow me if you’d never get tired of seeing Nintendo/indie/board games in your timeline. I post about other stuff, but that’s the bulk of it.

Musk has apparently manipulated Grok so much that it says he's a better athlete than LeBron James and a funnier comedian than Jerry Seinfeld.

Imagine being so insecure you need to program an LLM to boost you like that.

I haven't played Bloodless, but the other two are genuinely five-star meals. Highly highly recommend.

Unsighted is "what is Zelda but very modern and avant-garde", and Dandara is the same, but for Metroid instead of Zelda.

"The idea of a level playing field rationalizes inequality more than it promotes equality."

Chapter 6, Unsettling Catan

I'm a big fan of how this book casually unmasks the political suggestions and beliefs underlying so many eurogame designs.

"Such games subtly adopt a culturally capitalist vision of peace - not as the absence of conflict, but as perpetual conflict that feels peaceful only because it plays out within balanced economic arenas."

This is the dirty secret of all eurogames. They're, unwittingly or not, propaganda at heart.

"Detachment makes gameworlds too bland to be cathartic. And it makes me too disengaged to be playful."

End of chapter 1, Unsettling Catan

This is the more abstract version of explaining why eurogames feel "soulless" and "same-y".

It's a self-inflicted wound by players to only care selectively.

I don’t know how people can go their entirely life expressing themselves in writing (even non-writers, like people who post on the internet or send emails) without using em dashes and semicolons. And copious amounts of parentheses. They’re essential. Some thoughts can’t be rendered without them!

Aired some grievances with The Game Awards’ Best Mobile category, which has steadily narrowed its focus towards IP-driven gacha games regardless of their reception. Impossible to imagine something like Hidden Folks competing in 2025 and that’s weird! www.polygon.com/game-awards-...

So apparently there’s ZERO good analysis of Pluribus yet on YouTube? We’re only 3 episodes in, but I feel like there’s already quite a lot to unpack, especially with the protagonist’s character and behavior…

Two things can be true: 1.) The Game Awards are meaningless and we shouldn't take them all that seriously. 2.) Award shows of its scale DO rewrite the mainstream history of the art form, whether they deserve to or not, and its okay to care that it's so thoughtless despite having that responsibility.

Why am I so against generative AI in games?

Because I simply do not want my initial reaction to art to be one of suspicion and scrutiny, AI slop is fundamentally damaging my relationship to art and artistry, and I am deeply resentful that it is forcing me to be guarded when I should be wowed.

I know, I know, Discourse is bad and all that. Can I just take ONE minute to vent? This year's Innovation in Accessibility Award represent the same issue EVERY year with TGA – it's ALWAYS AAA games that have the best marketing.

The Game Awards are not the Oscars of video games. The Oscars miss constantly but at least they are a bona fide attempt by an industry to legitimize and promote itself; TGA is not that, it's just ads for individual products masquerading as an awards show run by one guy's particular preferences.

By the way, Edge of Tomorrow is definitely the best sci-fi movie — one of the best movies of any genre — that still too many people don’t know about. Suffered from the start from a bad title, but it’s absolutely fantastic. I’ve watched it SO many times.

I was thinking… at the rate and direction things are going, it feels likely that I’ll leave Bluesky at some point. In turn, it’s pretty likely that this will be the last traditional, general-purpose, non-local social media app I’ll ever use.

If Bluesky doesn’t work, nothing else like it will.

I absolutely hate the protagonist on Pluribus. She’s the most odious protagonist I ever remember watching. Everything she does, every reaction she has to everything, disturbs me because it reminds me that so many people act like her.

And the show is all the better for it. It’s fascinating.
