Here’s fun: just bought this old painting from a charity shop as I liked the style & pensive expression.
After I paid, the lady at the till told me the person who donated it said they think it’s is maybe of the guy those books by the door are about.
As I left, I looked at the books: it’s John Buchan
Oil Painting of the head and shoulders of a white man whose age difficult to estimate, maybe early middle age, dark haired with a short neat style, with a receding hairline, he is dressed smartly in dark jacket, white shirt with rounded collar and khaki tie. He is looking down and to the right with a pensive expression and is seated against a greenish, yellow background with some terracotta strokes hazily brushed in. The style of painting, clothes and hair suggest the work is from or represents the early twentieth century
