One of my favorite moments in the history of free speech: Larry Flynt publishing a satirical Campari ad featuring Jerry Falwell Sr. as an incestuous drunk who first had sex with his mother in an outhouse. Falwell sued. In a unanimous decision, the Supreme Court found that satire is protected speech.

10/10 no notes.
I spoke with the NYT Magazine a while ago but have now heard that an editor said they can't quote me because I'm "too liberal" to be a trusted source.

You know what's always the first example conservatives use to claim I'm "too liberal"?

My work in the 1619 Project, organized by the NYT Magazine.

Can we wrap up this whole Charlie Kirk thing by, let’s say, next Wednesday, at the latest, because I’d really like to get back to the Epstein Files?

1. At Charlie Kirk's vigil just now, DNI Tulsi Gabbard just invoked MLK Jr.'s line, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that." She insisted Kirk "lived" by that line.

Unclear how Kirk would've felt about that comparison, since he decried MLK as “awful” and "not a good person."

Something people aren't talking about enough is how often Charlie Kirk invoked the Fifth Amendment when testifying before Congress about the domestic terrorists he provided buses to get to Washington on January 6, 2021.

Have we tried... gun control?
Gunshot wounds are the third leading cause of spinal cord injuries in the country, and nearly everyone who survives a firearm-related spinal cord injury leaves the hospital with permanent neurological damage. Scientists are developing unprecedented new ways to treat these injuries.

Dead or alive, Rudy Giuliani brought “broken windows” policing to NYC.

“Not only did broken windows policing fail to reduce crime, but it also provided cover for a deliberate targeting of Black and brown communities.”

Why?

The theory comes from rightwing think tankers
