Welcome new followers!

Some of you don't necessarily know the whole story of *why* I care so much about the rise of the far right, about countering terrorism, and about building peaceful and thriving societies.

This video is a pretty good intro.

It is with deep sadness that I have to report the passing of Chip Berlet. He was one of the few people to consistently research and organize against the U.S. Far Right from the 1970s through the '00s. His co-authored 2000 book "Right-Wing Populism in America" unfortunately remains all-to-relevant.
Chip Berlet (1949-2026)

When neo-fascists began to be followed and recorded, it was Chip that was the one who made the first moves. He gave us the blueprint that antifascist researchers go by today. Thank you, Chip, we will take it from here.

Big loss =/
So sad. I remember when I was in an honors seminar at Marquette, on dictatorships, and we all had to use it as one of our key sources. (My country: Belarus. Sad thing is that the president then is still the president there now.)

This is a problem across fields - we're now lacking vital data on everything from electricity grid outages to global terrorism due to funding cuts by the US administration (and nobody being ready to step in to fill the funding-gap).
American scientists have historically been leaders in the collection and analysis of data on climate change. Trump is now trying to gag anyone reporting data that confirms climate change. www.economist.com/science-and-...

Very often, in fact. Most conspiracy theories are far more elaborate and cognitively demanding than reality. Generally speaking, they don't appeal to people who want the world to be simple, they appeal to people who want the world to be certain--with cause reliably following effect.
And sometimes the opposite is true! Some conspiracy theories, what makes them conspiracist thinking, is that they assemble an overly complex and unnecessary constellation of disparate claims to posit an overarching but unwarranted narrative that is bigger than the sum of its parts.

There's a vote in parliament tomorrow on making Norway a republic - the law was proposed by the previous parliament, but the timing of the vote is striking, with the Epstein crisis, and the trial against the son of the crown-princess on 40ish counts...may parliament vote to finally end the insanity.

While the step-son of the crown prince is the only one on trial I think it's also significant that it resolves who in the family knew and did what what when - and then we have to decide to what extent these are the kind of royals we want to be above the law and serve for decades to come.

Would the product eliminate the plot of an episode? (Google maps, cell phones, paypal, battery packs)

Good tech.

Would the product inspire new Seinfeld plots? (NFTs, AI chatbots, crypto currency, blindboxes, metaverse land sales)

Bad tech.
