Amazon’s convenience has made many people less aware of what’s around them. It’s still possible to find some things locally, especially if you live in or near a city.
It’s inconvenient for a bit and takes some time to figure out a network, but small businesses can surprise you!
I always see a lot of people say that Amazon is too big, that most of their money comes from AWS so there’s no point, or that they can’t just stop shopping at Amazon for whatever reason.

But we don’t have to do everything. Every little bit helps. Just do what you can.

Lots of folks reminding everyone that you can unsubscribe from WaPo the last couple days, but you can also divest from Amazon to whatever degree you feel capable. Some options:

—cancel Prime
—choose to buy certain items from other retailers when you can
—stop shopping at Whole Foods.

Send Help is a hilarious rebuttal to the “nerdy girl makeover” trope.
Send help was fun as hell. We haven’t seen gnarly Raimi in a while, and the two lead performances are hideously, hilariously undignified. It’s too long and has that classic Raimi element where he gets near the end, don’t want to stop having fun and just kind of peters out. Go see mid budget movies

Saw Send Help tonight!

There were maybe six people in the whole auditorium but we were all HOWLING and Raimi gave us exactly what we came for.

when i was a kid in the 00's, all the nostalgia was focused on the 80's...

it's just.
crazy to me that we've reached the point where the 00's are now having that nostalgic lens applied to them.

Calling up your Dem senators and thanking them for doing this is how you encourage them to hold the line, no matter how low your estimation of them is
👀 Every Senate Democrat + Collins and Murkowski just voted for the Bernie Sanders amendment to repeal the $75 billion in additional ICE funding under Trump’s “big beautiful bill.” The measure failed 49-51.

I almost participated in a fun art meme, walked it back after seeing the OP be an alt text scold.
As someone who *heavily uses alt text*, please don’t be a snide asshole about this.
Direct that energy instead to requesting tools that make it easier to write it, like enabling drafts on mobile.

Not all heroes wear capes; sometimes they wear blue shorts.

Also, being a mail carrier is MUCH more dangerous than working for ICE.

The Internet Archive has rolled out an extremely effective new tool for searching for old Geocities GIFs.

I'd apologize for what I'm about to do to this website as a result, but that would be a lie, because I won't feel sorry at all

How do people feel about dusting off “nimrod”?
The context seems appropriate for certain current events.
I’m seeing increased use of this word and I just want to gently suggest that if there’s one word you can manage to remove from your vocabulary it should be this one.

It was coined by a eugenicist who used it as a diagnosis to forcibly institutionalize and sterilize mentally disabled people.
The Origins of the Word "Moron" Are Actually REALLY Sinister
It's much more than just a casual insult.

This is so disappointing.
Gurney’s blog taught me more about illustration than school ever did.

Plus he could draw a better planes map blindfolded, I don’t get why he’s so impressed with this crap.
Catching up with what James Gurney, the Dinotopia artist, is up to these days. Pathetic.
