I confidently predict that people who profess to be outraged by, say, the removal or destruction of statues honouring slavers and other racists because "history something tradition something something" will be completely silent about this abomination.

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

Breaking news: The U.S. military killed six alleged drug smugglers off the coast of Venezuela, President Trump said, raising further questions about his legal authority to use lethal force against vessels suspected of transporting illicit narcotics.

What I didn't properly prepare myself for was that as the masked and armed fascists start tossing citizens into unmarked vans without license plates, they *also* take to television to opine on how patient they've been with their allegedly hateful and violent—actually law-abiding and peaceful—critics
