I have been digitizing some slides from the 1980s. This one and a few others had water damage, likely made worse by hot temperatures from attic storage. I asked Gemini to create alt-text for it. It did note that it was a seascape. I didn’t offer any hints. The alt-text is kind of lovely.

As, well, creepy as this whole thing is, it helped me understand a very weird corner of Trump’s appeal.
@Gideon___Jacobs on MAGA's image machine, "a classic example of soteriology and messianism taken too literally, an absence of the simultaneity of metaphor, people living in story rather than with stories." https://lareviewofbooks.org/article/trump-elon-musk-image-patel-maga-reality/

Very useful post from a literary magazine. Have others done this?

I end a great year of reading with these words:

“Welcome, O life, I go to encounter for the millionth time the reality of experience and to forge in the smithy of my soul the uncreated conscience of my race.

April 27. Old father, old artificer, stand me now and ever in good stead.”

Not a bad year

“‘They just kept saying, ‘Tell her to self-deport,’” she recalled. “Self-deport to where? Brazil is not her home.’” www.bostonglobe.com/2025/11/26/m...
