June 1965, a newspaper headline read "LBJ's man in Vietnam Really a Top Canadian", Op. Bacon may have been burned. Beyond the operation’s confidentiality breach, there was considerable concern that Bacon was “exacerbating DRVN antagonism to the USA and annoyance with Canada”.

Wyden has been on the Senate intel committee for many years. The letter signifies that he's been briefed on a major CIA covert action -- as is legally required -- and the briefing was alarming. He wouldn't do this unless he believed a great deal is at stake.

Here's a photo of the Hughes Aircraft management team at the Aerospace Data Facility at Buckley Air National Guard Base (now Space Force Base) in Colorado. The ADF operated the JUMPSEAT satellites and still operates their successors. Photo probably taken in 1976 or shortly afterwards.

The US National Reconnaisance Office has declasslifed the JUMPSEAT program, which had signals intelligence satellites in Molniya orbit starting in 1971.

Russia's decommissioned Olimp signals intelligence satellite, abandoned in the GEO graveyard orbit region in Oct 2025, has apparently disintegrated - possibly due to a debris hit since internal energy sources should have been vented when it was retired
Russia's secret Olymp-1 "stocking" satellite seemingly blows up in its graveyard orbit, a few hundred kilometers above heavily trafficked geostationary orbit

In early 1965, Seaborn’s fourth mission to Hanoi during Operation Bacon faced serious challenges. Washington’s “non substantive” message to Hanoi coupled with ongoing airstrike Operations Flaming Dart and Rolling Thunder threatened the viability of Bacon.
