My next article will appear in The Space Review Monday evening. It deals with efforts to provide a near-real-time reconnaissance capability to the HEXAGON satellite. There was a 1970 proposal to add a system to the existing reconnaissance cameras. (more)

This article is another great example of using CIA Photographic Intelligence Reports (PIRs) to filter through the millions of CORONA, GAMBIT, and HEXAGON scenes and find something notable (in this case, R-16 ICBMs).

The "Discovery" from 2001 at one point had tension cables along the spine, and large cooling vanes, (required for the nuclear engines).
