ALSV was partly a result of people looking at the technology developed for the shuttle in the 1970s and asking if there were other uses for it.

Oh, I think the idea is cool. It's just not practical. I wish the physics was a little better and we could put more payload into orbit with these smaller vehicles. But gravity is a harsh mistress.

They were both orbital systems. The similarity was air-launch. Difference was spaceplane vs. rocket, and piggyback vs. drop from the wing. Air-launch just isn't a good idea no matter what form it takes. Too limiting.

Yeah. I actually think he over-did it in the role. But he was playing for the small screen, which was really the same as playing for the back seats in the theater.

No. 1980. Air launched sortie vehicle. But with the same problems as Stratolaunch.

But I think "rogue" is really defined by their actions. He was still doing what the empire expected of him.

Yeah, Doomsday Machine. He's rogue, but for understandable reasons.

Is he really "rogue"?

WTOP had better election coverage, including a nice graphic giving the vote breakdowns by Virginia counties. I didn't see that on the Post site, and didn't really look for it.

What you'll notice most is the conflict between the news stories at left and bottom and the editorials and op-eds at right. Often the editorials are in direct conflict with the news. They're not conservative, yet, but they often seek to rationalize and apologize for Trump.

Yes. The readout technology was developed for Samos E-1 and E-2, then used on Lunar Orbiter. It was also considered for FROG. Look up my article on FROG for info about that. But I am not sure if they were considering the same kind of readout technology to add to HEXAGON.

Later, the star trackers (pointing up in this image) were used to look down at Earth to detect heat sources. And a final program mounted a downward-looking camera to do the same.
