England's water companies have 1,200 criminal convictions.

They lose a trillion litres of water to leaky pipes. Dump sewage in rivers for 4m hours. Customers fleeced.

None has its licence revoked. No exec prosecuted. Corporate fines are not collected

Whatever happened to democracy, rule of law?
Public ownership of water is the only way to deliver security, efficiency, investment and value for money

Things are no different today.

The Epstein emails should really end the debate over whether society should have billionaires. "Do you want there to be a class of people so powerful they can fuck your kids and no one will even try to do anything" seems like an easy sell if everyone in politics wasn't trying to get on their payroll

Each time I see an email from one of these academics to Epstein (which is FAR more often an occurrence than it should be), I think of Claudine Gay and grow irate.
Look im not jumping into the opsec conversation but consider the irony of people debating opsec while more powerful people are just using their academic emails like this

Amy Remeikis - "Beware the new normal"
"Some people just like power. Those same people enjoy sowing seeds of discord that they never have to actually solve, in order to keep it. They are able to do that, because many of us in the media work to make their offerings seem sane and normal."
“The normalisation of One Nation, through reality TV, breakfast TV slots and inclusion as a serious political player in Australia has been media-driven, dressed up as the people’s choice,” writes @amyremeikis.bsky.social.

Kevin M. Kruse on ICE and masks:
"While they might not technically act with immunity, ICE agents are certainly acting with impunity these days. And that comes less from them having the cover of law and more with them having a literal covering of face masks that give them anonymity."
As I noted here, ICE's masks have given them impunity to inflict harm without consequences, just like the Klan.

And just like the Klan, when they're unmasked by new laws, they'll be weakened across the board.

Good journalists will make sure you—not a public figure, not a commutations pro—understand what talking to reporters means. They will clearly explain what on/off the record, on background mean and ensure you know what applies when you’re speaking to them. And they will put source protection first.
For the amazing on-the-ground heroes in MN: it would be sooo valuable for you talk to media. We need to show that it’s just regular folks who are standing up for their neighbors.

If you would like media training to help you feel comfortable doing that, please hmu

"[A]busive behavior by DHS has stood out in the chaos of Operation Metro Surge. But the Justice Department has done its part, too."
Since we published this, Pam Bondi's X account has started posting mugshots of Minnesotans arrested for impeding ICE/CBP. Sharing a defendant's photo publicly in this way is forbidden under DOJ rules
ICE and CBP are at the head of Trump's campaign to terrorize Minnesotans. But the Justice Department is not far behind.

This is accurate. Trump has not changed course. He is trying to contain political damage. That's it. There is not pivot. There is no shift at this point. Past experience shows the "new tone," if you can call it that, will be temporary.
