The hardest thing about it all is you question the values you shared with people you thought you knew.

You question if you even knew them at all..
I knew we were cooked as a society when everyone just sorta decided they were sick of dealing with Covid and everyone just decided to pretend like it wasn't a thing anymore.

If this happened to a conservative organizer, Republicans would make her a hero, a household name and a congressional candidate.

Elected Democrats just pretend it isn't happening.

In the end, liberalism fails because, for all its rhetoric, it does not believe people are equal in rights or status. Look at this rat vacillate that he needs more information before he can condemn an outrageous abuse of power. Would you get this much understanding for breaking laws he supports?

Politics is not saying “Well that isn’t very nice, try to do better please.” Politics is policy, it’s making rules and enforcing them, it’s acting on the demands of your constituents, it’s providing service to the people who need it, it’s identifying societal enemies and working to neutralize them.

Grok isn’t going to stop cranking out child pornography because you hope they will do the right thing; that’s not in Musk’s best interests. The GOP isn’t going to demand accountability from Trump; they approve of what he’s doing. A coach saying “I hope they stop scoring on us” doesn’t win ballgames.

The core principle of liberalism, if it can be said to have one at all, is that politicians can sort of meekly advocate for a preferred outcome, but any action to attain that outcome (outside of capital doing it for profit) is suspect at best and illegitimate at worst. It’s government by op-ed.

This is not good governance. It’s not governance at all. It’s not even doing politics. It’s capitulation.

The role of the state is to regulate private enterprise, not to facilitate its gravest crimes. The role of the government is to implement the will of the voters, not to weakly cheerlead it.

The government has orchestrated a violent coup in a sovereign country? Well, we just hope the party responsible will step up, and if they don’t, voters might get mad.

A private company posts thousands of CSAM images a day, will the government keep using it? Well, we hope they do the right thing.

For example, we can't make housing affordable because boomers (who own most of the real estate in Canada) might lose equity.

They make $ on the REITs in their portfolios, collecting dividends from banks that prosper on real estate speculation.

Others can remain homeless while they tap the HELOC.
Boomers, in my experience, *are* a barrier to progress.

We like to imagine ourselves as civilized and enlightened compared to past generations, with international law and a “rules-based international order,” but the fact remains that if someone has the power and the will to do something, they will do it. The only real solution is to take away that power.
