Building the power and leadership of renters and people experiencing homelessness to fight for housing that is appropriate and affordable for all

The amendment was saved, with seven councilmember voting in favors and two abstentions
Council President Nelson pulled the amendment from @councilmember-amr.bsky.social to add $400,000 to restore funding to tenant services for a full council vote. This is an amendment supported by the Seattle Renters' Commission.

I’ve been extremely alarmed with the lack of national coverage in mainstream news regarding loss of Continuum of Care funding. Every single city and town across the US is gonna see huge spikes in homelessness. It’s an urgent emergency

Tenant service providers are already stretched far beyond capacity, and the need continues to grow. Removing this funding will increase evictions, displacement, and homelessness.

Drop your ballot ***in the ballot box*** before 8pm tomorrow!
We are just one day out from the Seattle local elections! Only 17.6% of King County voters and just under 20% of Seattle voters have returned their ballots. So far, only 1 in 17 young gen Z voters have voted, compared to more than 1 in 3 boomers. Don't forget to vote if you are eligible and want to.

Last year Harrell cut the City's tenant services by 40%, and those cuts remain in this new proposed budget. While I'm happy to see more rental assistance, tenant services are important to fully fund, especially with more than 50% of the city being renters.

This kind of rhetoric sure hits differently during Trump's second administration, something these councilmembers don't appear particularly attuned to. Saying you'll fight against the Trump administration while attacking the equitable development initiative is some real cognitive dissonance.
Starting another day of budget hearings, Seattle Councilmember Maritza Rivera, who tried to kill the city's Equitable Development Initiative last year, suggests that the program is failing to complete projects while embracing "ideology."

Mayor Harrell released his proposed budget today. This budget maintains the same level of funding for tenant services as last year, a 40% cut from 2024, despite evictions reaching record highs.

Mayor Harrell and the Seattle City Council defunded tenant services by 40% last year. We're barely hanging on by a thread, and as Kasey Burton from Tenant Law Center said about renters seeking legal assistance, "the need is bottomless."
WA promised tenants lawyers. Why are so many facing eviction alone?

Washington became the first state to guarantee attorneys for tenants facing eviction. But a surging number of cases threatens to undermine that promise.

Even Sound Transit knows it's BS to have a gigantic effectively-private golf course served by *two* light rail stations. We should do what they printed and change "Jackson" Golf Course to be the Thornton Creek Natural Area Park, with uses everyone can enjoy.
