Why did Seattle mayoral candidate Katie Wilson go from being down 8 points the day after the election, to less than 2 points by Friday? A look at how late ballots in Seattle trend left as counting goes on: www.axios.com/local/seattl... #waelex
Why Seattle's elections often swing left during later counts

Claudia Balducci has conceded to Girmay Zahilay in the King County Executive race. #waelex
With most ballots in, it is clear my colleague Girmay Zahilay has been elected as the next Exec. I called to congratulate and wish him all the best as he begins to transition into this important role. The success of KC depends on his success as Exec, and as a continuing CM I am committed to both.

Day 4 of counting and fairly notable jump for Katie Wilson today. Now only less than 2 points separate her and Harrell. He's at 50.74% and she's at 48.86%. #waelex

I’ve said this many times but it’s worth repeating:

When it comes to voting, we have an Election Day deadline.

When it comes to election results, we have an Election Week.

The more media sets this expectation, the less confusion and more trust we’ll have in our great vote by mail system. #waelex

The Supreme Court will decide if mail-in ballots must be received by Election Day

This would impose a new limitation and force changes in states like Washington, where mail-in ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, but can be delivered by the post office after Election Day #WAelex
The Supreme Court did grant review of one case today, Watson v. Republican National Committee, and it's a big one over state laws allowing the counting of ballots cast by Election Day but received after Election Day.

Here's the docket: www.supremecourt.gov/docket/docke...

Any maps you in the next couple weeks are only based on the tally from the first night, which is woefully incomplete.

The time to start paying attention to maps (or mapping yourself) is when we get the complete and final canvas file when the election is certified. #waelex
Is this not being updated this election? I could map it myself, but I don't know that I have the time, sigh. I know @weill.org often maps it too.

The King County Executive race is too close to call based on election night data. Girmay Zahilay led many precincts in more populous areas, while Claudia Balducci led in more precincts in suburban and rural areas. #seaElex #waElex #seattle #SeaElection #electionViz #dataviz

Bruce Harrell is up in early election night results. But his initial advantage may not be enough to withstand a late ballot surge for Katie Wilson. We'll see.

Too early to call this race, for sure.
