One of my favorite things about Star Trek is that none of it makes any sense technologically unless you assume there has been a Butlerian Jihad and none of the computers are allowed to be smarter than a Zilog Z80

"So, how did you get fired from Nintendo?"

"I composited the Mario family with a suggestion of depth."

Behold the Prohibited Marios of Nintendo's internal illustration manual
You should certainly flip through the document; here I've reproduced my favorites: Mustard Mario, Mario with Tassles and Executed Traitor Mario.

Welcome to the Armando Iannuci-esque nightmare of being a tech-illiterate politician answering questions about CSAM at a scientific conference.

CSAM on X is a personal choice, says politician who wanted to ban web browsers over anonymous porn
nly the viewer is responsible, O'Donovan told attendees at a conference in Dublin, where he defended use of the service by officials

Right up until this moment this tech-illiterate politican wanted to ban open source browsers and Tor because they let people access pornography. Now he says the CSAM generated by X is a personal choice. You are governed by transparently unprincipled creeps blown hither and yon by wealth and fear.

The temptation to post about unpleasant things is SO difficult to resist. So, instead, here is a map of a suspiciously familiar fantasy continent.

Frame of the first shot. He was never in any danger, it's a front wheel drive vehicle with the wheels turned hard away from him, he's in a shooting stance with both feet well clear of it before he even fires. Subsequent shots are through the side window. Murder.

A great forensic debunking of a fake reddit whistleblower. One thing not mentioned is that in the first sentence of the post the guy claimed to be posting from a public library on New Year's Day, which does mean this game was played on easy mode.

Debunking the AI food delivery hoax that fooled Reddit
A “whistleblower” tried to corroborate his viral post with AI-generated evidence. This is how I caught him. PLUS: Grok's image-generation crisis, and the rapture over Claude Opus 4.5

The UK government spent years building out a surveillance, digital ID and censorship system on the pretext of protecting women and children from porn and harassment. Then they shrug at all this CSAM on X. They never believed in any of it, they just wanted the authority and the tools.
Keir Starmer's spokesman tells me that X and Grok's creation of sexual deepfakes of children is "completely unacceptable" but again won't commit to taking direct action against them, or to stop posting there.

This could be a good but it's almost certainly just going to be the final stage of colorless pseudo-realistic revisionism. You could make a fantastically nasty, fun, subversive telling of the legend and let him wear green.

Hear hear. Turning Robin Hood from an English yeoman into a noble class traitor was a typically French innovation.
I am in charge of Robin Hood (because I said so) and these are my demands for any Robin Hood movie:

Peasant or freeman, none of this retroactive "one of the good ones" aristocrat nonsense. MAKE ROBIN POOR AGAIN.

Filmed in actual color and the gray hoodie has to go. He has a signature hat. Use it.

"Media silent on pervasive CSAM on platform they all contractually oblige their employees to use" is maybe a law story as much as a political/media navelgazing story.

We took the coastal road into town after dark, headlights cutting through the mist and clarifying nothing in the haze but movement. The sea, close and unseen, whispered secrets.

Congress is about to make a huge push into online ID verification, entrenching the power of big tech and mandating that they collect even MORE data on users. Mass surveillance/censorship laws are being framed as “child safety” but they’re really abt at removing LGBTQ ppl, repro justice info, etc.
