Interesting thing about Colbert—something that sets him apart from the other late-night comedy hosts over the decades: Paar, Carson, Leno, Letterman, Conan, the Jimmys, et al.—is his willingness to be entirely candid (while remaining winsome) about his thoughts & feelings on morally weighty matters.

I hope the people who supposedly withheld their vote in support of Gaza feel it was worth it
Ah yes. The “pro-peace, America First” party.

Does voting even have a purpose if the basic institutions of our democracy are destroyed? Musk is performing a coup in plain sight - with no obstruction from anyone that could actually do something.

Executive orders as they currently function should probably just not exist. The executive branch has no business doing stuff that ought to be legislated in the first place.

Or at the very least they should be ratified by Congress before going into effect. It makes the presidency far too powerful.

For the last couple of years, I’ve been collecting antique books. This weekend, the latest addition to my collection - “It Can’t Happen Here” by Sinclair Lewis - arrived.

Trump’s anti-trans Executive Order is bad BUT it technically defines everyone as female. It states:

“'Female' means a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the large reproductive cell."

Since all fetuses "at conception" are female, Trump just defined EVERYONE as female.

With alt-text. The Parable of the Talents is a novel by Octavia Butler. It was published in 1998, a sequel to The Parable of the Sower (1993.) Both were award winning books.

I think there’s a misconception out there that good writing means phrasing things in a way nobody ever has or would—that if a sentence feels familiar in the mind it fails. The opposite is true. Good writing is phrasing things in a way everyone has always wanted to and recognizes in their hearts.

Let me know if anyone in corporate media asks Jim Jordan about how his star witness in the Biden impeachment inquiry just got 6 years in prison for making it all up.
