Reeves said PIP is "a waste of their potential and a waste of their futures.”

PIP is a measure that keeps more disabled people IN WORK, without it many will drop out of the workforce.

This REDUCES the economic activity the country needs.

Reeves is lying by pretending it's somehow the opposite.

Funny and sad in equal measures.
Karen Hoyland, 42, who tweets under the name “AutismMummy42”, said: “I’m doing everything I can to make sure the neurological condition that forms the basis of my son’s personality doesn’t become his whole personality.”
I won’t let my son’s autism define him, says self-defined Autism Mum
A woman who has based her entire personality on having an autistic son has vowed not to let her son’s autism define him, it has been revealed.  Karen Hoyland, 42, who tweets under the name “AutismMumm...

Possibly the best AAC post of all time: If you or your autistic person use AAC [alternative communication], don't forget to enable descriptions of personal boundaries—because everyone should be able to say "stop" and "F*** off". From Mel Baggs, RIP:

It’s been quite some time since I posted my letter to the woman who accosted me on my way to the para transit van. But I wanted to update people on how I handled the situation when she approa…

So helpful when other people but into words what I can barely explain to myself.
Why are new things potentially tricky for autistic people?

A thread (the first I've done for years and years)

Some quick facts about autism and ADHD diagnoses that might blow your mind 🤯

- Asperger's (which, of course, we don't use any longer) was only added to the DSM in 1994. Prior to that, the only people being diagnosed with autism were primarily nonspeaking with high support needs. (1/5)

Reposting as I need to read this again a few more times, I think.
Masking isn’t deception - it’s survival.

But it comes at a cost.

Unmasking is about finding spaces where survival doesn’t mean erasing ourselves.

Positives spaces where we can thrive aren't optional or a neat desire - they're a necessity for life.

Paraphrased: "Many autistic adults engage in camouflaging. This masking can be stressful and raise the risk of heart disease, stroke and suicidal thoughts and behaviors. W/out adequate support some autistic adults may experience burnout a phenomenon characterized by chronic exhaustion..."
#Ageing as an #Autistic person is challenging.
We’re more likely to have health issues but often find services inaccessible.
We value independence but aren’t supported to maintain it.
We’re as deserving as other age groups but tend to get overlooked.

Growing old with autism
For many autistic adults, the golden years are tarnished by poor health, poverty and, in some cases, homelessness. Their plight reveals huge gaps in care.

Still learning, very much by trial and error. #AuDHD #Burnout
Being aware about your individual window of tolerance is really useful if you’re around people in any way.

If you know your window today (or generally) is really low, let the people know around you know you need to re-center, then tap into your practices. Much better than hurting yourself & others.
Are you familiar with your window of tolerance? It’s a psychological concept, developed by Dr. Dan Siegel. It’s what our parents called their nerves. The space in which a person can function effectively, think clearly, and manage stress without becoming overwhelmed or shut down.

I spend a lot of time reading through diagnostic reports, especially for autism, and the deficit/problematic language abounds. Language is, indeed, everything.
Neurodiversity affirming language is SO important - I read so many referral forms which describe traits with an unintentionally problematic lens.

LANGUAGE IS EVERYTHING!

For many years I have been posting little observations online. What you may not know is that for many years, artists have been illustrating them - for no reason other than they wanted to respond. Below is a thread of some of these beautiful drawings because they should be seen 🧵
