Senator Angus King (I-ME) reaching to history to recall Senator Margaret Chase Smith (R-ME) and her 1950 stand against what she called "Republican Fascists." (King does not hold Chase's seat; Senator Susan Collins (R) does.)
Margaret Chase Smith’s words ring more true — and urgent — today than when she first spoke them. Americans should put aside politics and return to what unites us: the Constitution. We can disagree about policy, but we cannot waver on our commitment to our founding principles.

The tech giant instead engaged a firm that is fighting the president’s executive orders, Jenner & Block, in a sign that those firms can still attract clients.

Increase in productivity since 1979: 86%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 31%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.

Trump and DOGE are planning to cut nearly 7,000 jobs from the Social Security Administration while shuttering field offices.

SSA staffing is already at a 50-year low.

If you or a loved one have trouble getting Social Security benefits, remember who is to blame.

The GOP budget bill could gut the FTC by moving its antitrust authority to the DOJ, limiting the government's ability to bring unfair competition cases.

It would also let Pam Bondi, an ex-Amazon lobbyist, call the shots on antitrust.

Big Business must be thrilled.

Two former Wells Fargo executives were fined $8.5M by the Biden administration for covering up the bank's infamous fake account scandal.

Trump just slashed those fines to a paltry $150,000 after Wells Fargo gave $1M to his inauguration.

See how this works?

The test of a successful president has nothing to do with how much he gets done in 100 days or how much power he accumulates.

The real test is how much better off are the people, and how much stronger is our democracy.

By these measures, the second term of Trump is a travesty.

Wherein I ask:

“How appalling is it that Trump—an outright criminal who should have gone to jail for far more than he was convicted of—is using his official power to punish lawyers for representing innocent people he doesn't like and to deny people the very due process he's getting?”

Sometimes the combination of arrogance and ignorance is breathtaking. Yes, US health care has high admin costs; that's because it relies so much on private insurers. Govt-run health insurance has much lower overhead

Why is there any discussion about this? It is utterly and totally disqualifying. Sex with an unconscious person is rape.
