News from the office of Independent U.S. Senator Angus King of Maine. Following/reposting does not equal an endorsement.
Many of the tactics being used in ICE’s current operations are violating the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Amendments of the Constitution.

The most extreme actions of these masked agents are not only unprofessional and unnecessary, they are proving to be deadly.

I can’t support the proposed DHS budget without adding adequate guardrails and robust accountability. I told Face the Nation we should pass the rest of the spending bills and negotiate a responsible path forward that avoids a government shutdown.

There’s no national security reason for the U.S. to buy, capture, or take over Greenland. None.

We must instead continue to work with our trusted NATO allies – like we’ve done for 75 years – to protect the Arctic and our interests.

Sen. King says it's 'nonsense' that U.S. needs to own Greenland for national security
The independent also said he was appalled by Trump administration's suggestions that the U.S. could use the military to take control of the arctic territory.

While this past year has had its challenges, this season is a time to slow down and reflect with family and friends on all we have to be grateful for.

From my family to yours, Happy Holidays and may all your days be merry and bright.

While my office is decorated with Maine artwork year-round, this holiday season we were excited to display ornaments drawn by the talented students from Zippel Elementary School in Presque Isle.

Thank you for sending some Maine holiday spirit and cheer to the Capitol! 🎄✨

Jen Fullmer epitomizes the best of our U.S. Air Force. As a B-1 pilot, she flew dozens of combat missions to defend American interests. In Maine, she has worked to support her fellow veterans and give back to her community.

Abraham Lincoln said it best when he said our nation has the responsibility to care for those who have fought our country’s battles. Cutting positions at the VA and making it harder to access care is no way to repay veterans for their service.

On this 1st night of Hannukah, I am horrified by the antisemitic terrorist attack at the candle lighting in Australia.

It’s past time we recommit to stamping out antisemitism and making sure that the Hannukah lights will shine bright for generations to come.

Last night, we witnessed yet another school shooting Brown University. Enough.

I have introduced or support several pieces of legislation to protect our communities, provide safe firearm storage and to limit rounds to prevent mass shootings. Let’s work together and get it done.

If you don’t learn the mistakes of history, you're more likely to repeat them. The Administration's efforts to erase some of our history at national parks does a disservice to future generations.

Acknowledging the dark parts of our history does not take away from our triumphs.

One of my favorite holiday traditions is participating in the annual Toys for Tots gift drive hosted by the Veterans Affairs Committee! It's a wonderful way to give back to our community and help make the holidays shine brighter for those in need. 🎁🎄

Dismantling the Department of Education will hurt students and educators in Maine and across the country. The Administration's attempt to outsource functions of the Department to other federal agencies is not only harmful to our young people, it's illegal.

December 7th, 1941, lives in infamy for the attack on Pearl Harbor — a day that changed history. It also stands as a testament to the American spirit. Today, we continue to draw strength and inspiration from the heroism of the U.S. servicemembers who bravely answered the call.

Charles Shay was a world-class, courageous individual who gave honor to Maine, his tribe, his community and his country. I know he will be missed around the country, but especially at home on Indian Island. My warmest wishes go out to his family and many friends.

The Geneva Convention is clear: calling for deadly attacks against survivors is a war crime. Period.

America is great because America is good. If we want to live up to that ideal, Congress must investigate these boat strikes and hold those responsible accountable.

The H-2B visa program is a lifeline for Maine small businesses — helping employers meet increased demand when the local workforce is insufficient. I'm calling on the Administration to release the maximum number of these visas to support our seasonal economy.
Supply of H2B visas falls short of Maine hotel and restaurant needs heading into winter season
U.S. Sens. Angus King and Susan Collins asked the departments of Homeland Security and Labor to release maximum amount of H2B visas for 2026.

On Veteran’s Day, we honor the brave Americans who have answered the call to defend our nation and protect the values that make it great. If you have a veteran in your life, I hope you’ll join me in thanking them today for their service and sacrifice.

If a tactic isn’t working, you switch your approach — especially when millions of Americans are hurting.

This new agreement would keep SNAP benefits flowing and ensure workers get paid, all while providing an opportunity to protect ACA tax credits.

Two years ago, the unthinkable happened when tragedy unfolded in Lewiston, claiming 18 lives and shaking our Maine community to its core. Today, as we continue to heal, we focus on lifting each other up, remembering the lives we lost, and trying to prevent it from happening again.

Nearly 170,000 Maine people rely on SNAP to put food on their tables, but these benefits may lapse due to the shutdown. There are many ways for the Agriculture Department to free up funds, and I'm urging the Secretary deliver this vital aid.

After two agonizing years, the war is over and the living hostages are home.

Needed aid is entering the Gaza Strip and the deceased are being returned for proper burials, including two Americans.

America’s role in the world makes a difference. Thank you to those who made it happen.

On October 7, 2023, more than one thousand Israelis, and several Americans, were brutally murdered or taken hostage by Hamas terrorists.

We must never forget. Today, let us recommit to peace and, once for all, bring the remaining hostages home.

I was honored to attend the christening of the USS Louis H. Wilson, Jr. this weekend, a flight-three destroyer built by the hardworking men and women at Bath Iron Works. Maine continues to lead the way in helping our military keep us safe at home and abroad.
