Became obsessed with politics during the Brexit disaster - despise corrupt Tory politicians - have hope for better from Starmer etc.
Recently retired - which overall I don't recommend!
Tango dancer - another obsession, but just a tad more enjoyable!

Cue Farage and all the brexity cultists howling about Reeves betraying Brexit and no one in the loud right wing media and political culture retorting that they’ve all gone mad. You can’t deny reality and call it patriotism. Well, you can but it makes you a delusional populist idiot.

I hope he *actually* understands how damaging McSweeney has been to his Premiership. And I really hope he changes tack now and stops trying to out-Reform Reform.
Starmer needs to acknowledge he didn’t win a huge mandate — the Tories collapsed, so Labour strolled in.
Corbyn actually lost with more votes.

What did McSweeney do next? Advise Labour into the lowest poll ratings in its history.

So spare us the tears over McSweeney’s resignation.

I see I will have to continue my avoiding of Wetherspoons pubs ( which I previously quite liked) - not set foot in one since before the Referendum.
Multimillionaire Brexiter, Tim Martin, urges pubs to back Reform. Just like he urged the country to vote for Brexit. Too bad if it makes you poorer. Too bad for the children he’ll push back into poverty. Tim wants more money. And he couldn’t give a shit about the cost for everybody else.

February 9, 2026 at 3:50 PM
Just one of several ways that Starmer could re-set his Government's overall strategy, in a good way.
After all, our current political landscape is no longer Labour v Conservative, so the traditional reluctance of the main parties to promote PR should no longer exist.
The daft thing is that with Proportional Representation there'd be no need for this self-destructive war within Labour. It could split into its component parts - left and right - and people could vote for what they wanted. It's only First-Past-the-Post that forces these irreconcilables together.

I agree that Starmer should not resign - this could be an opportunity to re-think his overall strategy.
But what a strange turn of phrase by P Jukes - "to pivot to reform" - we need the exact opposite, imo!!
While celebrating McSweeney’s resignation, I don’t think Starmer should necessarily go next. He has a moment to pivot to reform and transparency. He can still change the political culture if he wants to. People can surprise you. Think of Zelenskyy. Live in hope

This is *not* the face of a caring Labour Government.
New analysis @ippr.org that 300,000 children currently in Britain will be adversely affected by government’s settlement reforms. The government consultation closes on Thursday. Dozens of MPs are concerned that impacts to their constituents & families feel unfair

And presumably all of the illegally-held "immigrants" have equally shocking tales to tell. But it does hit home harder, when it happens to be someone that we can more easily relate to.

Exactly this! Labour's PR since the election has been abysmal, and so very disappointing. (Not helped, obviously, by some disappointing early decisions from the top.)
Good. Labour's PR has been beyond abysmal.

A few more flushes and the water may start to run clean.

That's not the end of the scandal. But hopefully it's at least the end of the beginning.

Let's see if Starmer can rehabilitate himself with better advisers.
