I wrote about how the Ohio GOP is going to gerrymander the state. They will not find it hard to do so because the rules incentivize a partisan GOP gerrymander

The GOP is going to Steal Ohio's Congressional Map
And it's not even going to be hard for them

I'm already seeing centrists and leftists sniping at each other but the blame for this is 100% on the Republicans. This is what they do with power and it is imperative that we work together to keep them as far from it as possible, forever.

incredibly funny that the NYT acted to protect this guy's name because he leaked a hacked college app that wasn't accepted from a guy who is not even mayor yet
Wow -- The Guardian has already reported this guy's name.

"the account is apparently run by Jordan Lasker, a long-time proponent of eugenics... boosted or engaged with dozens of times by Elon Musk, often on the topic of falling birthrates."

Some people think this is an exaggeration but I will say that if I were HHS Secretary and my goal were to kill as many children as possible, it would be difficult to distinguish the actions I would take from those that Kennedy has taken.

I’ve never forgotten this picture from 2016 and how it completely reshaped my understanding of how the media covers protests.
But if a few people in masks start lighting stuff on fire? Then you have news. This creates an *enormous* attentional advantage towards the most violent and chaotic kind of protest.

the fact that people were told “today you are going to an elementary school to lie to teachers and kidnap kids” and didn’t immediately tell their bosses to go fuck themselves is all you need to know about why ICE should be dismantled
BREAKING: Federal agents in plain clothes and unmarked cars tried to snatch 1st graders from LA elementary schools—told staff they had “parental consent.”

They lied. When pressed, they HID THEIR IDS. DHS admits they sent them. This wasn’t a welfare check. It was a test run for a police state.

💡 Very excited to announce new features: better interactive maps! 🗺️

– Enhanced country/region selection with several sorting options and a bar chart preview
– Selecting a country highlights it and shows its value on the map
– Zooming to your selection brings up a 3D globe view 🌍

Risk of guacamole more like
Notable risk for large hail in the Denver metro area today - IF we can get some clearing this morning. Risk is a bit higher today compared to yesterday.

Definitely have those cars in the garage today.

Notable tornado risk for SE Colorado as well today.

If a seven-year-old can’t walk to the store the fault lies not with the parents but with the community.
In order to eliminate any inconvenience to cars, we’ve made it illegal for children to be children

Not dunking here, but we gotta be better about Abundance criticism. If the tradeoff is San Fransisco level homelessness or (generally good) regs then we may have to accept that the regs must go.

Attack Abundance over saying that medical science has stalled! Or their utopianism!
I'm not doing anything. What I said was true: denying people vital air filters to keep getting sick or die is fucked, period. Since you've now made it clear you're good with that, were done

Power isnt worth letting kids die for fucks sake. Muted now

I support many of the particular abundance policies, but its more helpful as a way to push my conservative friends left than anything else
i think this new york centric worldview helps explain why these people see national politics the way they do. parochialism of thinking that politics everywhere is the same as it is in manhattan.
Josh Barro: "When I look at policies in New York that stand in the way of Abundance, very often if you look under the hood, you eventually find a labor union at the end that's the driver"

Stephen Miller, his wife, and Elon are widely rumored to be a throuple.

Now Miller's wife is leaving the Trump team to be with Musk & LITERALLY PER THE NEW YORK TIMES Stephen is angrily subtweeting Musk.

They actually put it in the paper of record that he was mad
Meanwhile Stephen Miller is furiously subtweeting Musk on X

Part of the problem is that the framing around issue polls is that they give you an idea of what people think at a given moment. They are pretty weak at that. What they are pretty good at is telling us if trends are shifting or if ideas are changing. Just not totally how/why/to what
The other thing about this is ISSUE POLLS DON’T ACTUALLY TELL YOU THIS. The outcome of issue polls is almost completely dependent on framing. If the framing changes - in the poll or in society - the poll results will change.
if your grand approach to politics is bloodless poll-testing so that you're always aligned with wherever public opinion happens to be, you've already lost

These come straight from the intellectual emptiness on the right. They have an extremely limited view of slavery that has zero historical context and think of it in Us v Them, zero sum terms. The idea that Africans enslaved Africans is novel to them because it feels like exoneration
Presenting "africans were active in the slave trade" as some kind of harsh truth is such fucking garbage. No one on the left denies that this in true, we deny that it's relevant!
amazingly fucked up that the NYT is uncritically publishing the claim, “Race has some biological reality.”

that is, definitionally, racism. textbook.
May 24, 2025 at 10:04 PM
Interesting how the weaselly phrase "race has some biological reality" has wormed its way into conservative ideology. You see it everywhere.

It's perfect. You press them and they fall back to the ambiguity inherent to "some" while they build their entire platform around "biological reality"
this entire paragraph is Stephen Pinker openly saying, "I think race science is real and correct."
