So people on here are always talking about how newspapers over/under-cover certain events. For example, that important Trump scandals are under-covered bc they jump to the next scandal. But is it true? I investigated! austinclemens.com/austinclemen...
Which political events does media focus on most?
Categorizing every political article the WaPo and NYT wrote in 2024 and 2025 to-date to see how newspapers choose to focus coverage.

Really novel idea in media - just describe what’s happening in clear normal english
I don’t know why, and I don’t want to make a big hairy deal out it so ICE’s Special Media Prosecutor Division doesn’t notice, but People Magazine has been incredibly straightforward with their Trump headlines when he’s being a weird old asshole.

They’re a quiet Facebook behemoth, so this is good.

I heard this in the moment and frankly thought Trump said "Peggy" and assumed there was a reporter there with that name. A completely shocking comment.

So Harvard is keeping this guy, but Claudine Gay had to step down over ginned up plagiarism accusations and bad-faith accusations of anti-Semitism.

Got it.
Larry Summers tells @theharvardcrimson.bsky.social
he’s stepping back from all public commitments in light of his messages with Epstein, saying he is “deeply ashamed” and hopes “to rebuild trust and repair relationships.”

He will continue teaching.

Gotta pour a little out on your hand and then yell "It burns!"
Yesterday, a Republican tried to give me holy water and Trump perfume because I’m “demonic.”

Extremely normal stuff coming from an extremely normal party.

Phew, it's a good thing MeToo took care of all this and there are no longer abusers in positions of power. Was really worried until I read this NYT article.
Genuinely pretty appalled this got published. (Don’t bother with your savvy remark about how nobody should be surprised.)

Why are the "Country X will invest 8 gajillion into the US" pledges reported seriously? Is there any evidence that any of these mean anything?

Deportations actually _increase_ housing prices because they shrink the construction industry.

The reduction in new houses being built swamps effects from lower demand

NEW: @propublica.org investigated the Chicago apartment raid where kids were zip-tied and citizens detained for hours. They find:

- NONE of the arrested were criminally charged
- NO evidence the building was "filled with TdA terrorists."
- ZERO legitimate reason for DHS to rappel from a Blackhawk.

A series of exchanges between Jeffrey Epstein and Lawrence H. Summers, the former Treasury Secretary, suggest a far cozier and more intimate relationship than was previously known, emails between the two that were released by House Republicans show. nyti.ms/3WTjiKu
Epstein Bantered Regularly With Larry Summers
The former Treasury secretary corresponded routinely with Jeffrey Epstein. In one series of exchanges, he sought Mr. Epstein’s advice on how to handle a female acquaintance.

pretty funny in retrospect that QAnon hinged on the idea that powerful elites at the highest levels of government were smart enough to talk in code when sending emails to each other about their despicable crimes

Isn't the answer that their wingnut base wanted Epstein files and their wingnut base truly believes that Trump is a heroic anti-pedo infiltrating national smuggling rings?
Will always be puzzled as to why Republicans hammered so hard on the Epstein stuff given that it was obvious that it would be a huge risk for their own guy

Trump and Epstein were buddies throughout the height of his trafficking -- what did they think would happen?
