In November, Patti Smith & her Band went on tour to commemorate the 50th anniversary of her first album, HORSES. I went to five of those shows and decided I'd write a "mega-zine" (to quote a friend) about it & you can order it here. Shipping later this week when it comes back from the printer!

Oh hey it me
On this day in 2008, his 50th birthday, Mike was a guest DJ on WUOG 90.5 at UGA. For three hours, he played over fifty tracks from his own vinyl collection, including a special dedication of ‘Smokin' in the Boys Room’ to Peter and Bill.

I never thought I’d get to see it happen but there he was, along with Kevin O’Neil, walking up the stairs in front of Memorial Hall, both carrying tons of vinyl. His hair was longer tha…

I feel like this pretty much sums up the rot at the core of American civic life as a whole.

“Hold the fuck up, cowboy. I signed up for the great power, not the great responsibility when I signed up for the church/media/government/think tank complex/etc.”
can u imagine being not only a baptized christian but an ordained priest and then, when NPR asks you about the Bishop of New Hampshire's comments last week, what you find to say is "I didn't sign up to be a martyr"??

Hey. I give you permission to have one screaming crying ugly breakdown today. Just get it all out. I prefer a closet during lunch break but a car will also do. Give yourself a minute to feel.

In April 2024, Spotify implemented a new scheme: songs with less than 1k streams per year would no longer receive royalties.

The data for 2025 was just released via Luminate, and 88% of songs have been demonetized.

Read it again: 88% of songs on Spotify have been demonetized.

Beloved Gradykat is having some more health issues which we expected given that she’s nearly 16 but it really doesn’t make this any easier. Enjoying the time we’ve got with her, ya know?

I mean, here we have a feel-good story of ordinary defiance. Pushing back against hate. But you, the reader, may know (as I did not) who Mark Harris is and that his husband is in fact legendary American dramatist Tony Kushner. This would be like if Saul Bellow or Joan Didion told you to get fucked.
My husband was on the 2 train and a guy started braying about how Renee Good deserved to die and her "lesbian lover" did too. My husband got pissed and said, "You're absolutely disgusting." "Fuck you!" the guy said. "Fuck YOU!" my husband said. The guy left.

See? We just need to talk to each other.

The punk scene never dies!
I owe my life to the early 2000s Athens punk scene. Bands: Carrie Nations, Zumm Zumm, Madeline, This Scares Me, We Versus the Shark. Venues: Tite Pockets, Caledonia Lounge.

Haven't lived there for two decades, but happy to see a scene report. Hope this comic gets printed for Fluke!
I met Abby Kacen in Cincinnati, summer 2024. She was working in an art & supply shop and I was putting up flyers for see/saw.

We met again in a Memphis comic book store during Gonerfest. Read this comic about the state of Athens' punk scene + go get Sid & the Sickos.
