There's a new Jill Scott album out now — really looking forward to spending time with one of the all-time greats. (NPR Music has something special for y'all on Monday 😉)

Here are a few more albums I'm spinning today! 🧵

Superior Viaduct really coming for my wallet.

Flipper.
Julius Hemphill.
Noah Howard.
Luciano Cilio. *

*OK, I already own a copy of 'Dialoghi Del Presente,' but I can't recommend this relatively unknown masterpiece enough.

I think about this photo of Terry Riley (with Burger King bag in hand) and Big Boi all of the time. It reminds me that there is good and imagination and burgers in this world and that makes me happy.

I have 5 minutes until this meeting, which means I can listen to approximately 2.5 Joyce Manor songs.

Two side-long meditations on the Hardanger fiddle, a folk instrument native to Norway (aka my people ;).

Really looking forward to spending some time with this Zosha Warpeha record.

Hadn't really seen this kind of reporting around Benito Bowl: Getting straight to the heart of Puerto Rico, with the people of Puerto Rico.

In Puerto Rico, Sunday wasn't about football. It was the Benito Bowl
Bad Bunny's performance at the Super Bowl may have been his biggest audience yet, but for the people he has represented since his start — his fellow Puerto Ricans — it meant something special.

My brain, clearly a victim of Stockholm syndrome this winter.

This comes up sometimes!

This was the desk of Bob Boilen, who co-created Tiny Desk series. He retired a few years ago, so now the desk is just the Tiny Desk and nothing else.

(But Bob did work at the desk for many, many years, you know, when there wasn't a concert going on.)
i have to ask you, does that desk really belong to someone? i fixate on the phone every time, and wonder if someone actually sits there (i'm not the only one!)

"Shout out also to Tiny Desk series editor Lars Gotrich, a nice guy and a great music writer who has a most excellent name. Lars Got Rich. Fucking sick. If that was my name, you couldn't tell me shit."

You can't tell me shit. (Thanks, @tombreihan.bsky.social 🙌)

There is an effort underway by some of the wealthiest and most powerful men in the US to deprive Washington of any culture that does not fit their narrow, cruel, and incorrect view of what the arts should be. This week they struck a powerful blow that should not be forgotten—or forgiven.
If it clarifies what was lost this week:

Philip Kennicott and Monica Hesse remain as arts critics at The Washington Post

Eliminated:
art critic
arts editor
arts/film editor
classical critic
pop critic
television critic
theater critic
all editors/reporters in Book World including two book critics

It is a good discography.
I am in a band called Fuubutsushi. People are always like "huh?" and then I say "Foo Butt Sushi" and they nod like they understood it the second time. Anyway, we just put our whole discography on bandcamp.
