I taught myself how to make music from scratch at 19 by listening to all kinds of music and figuring out the patterns/rhythms/timings. I had no money or formal training. Just a bad laptop and college internet access thanks to grants and loans.

I'm tired of these lazy sacks of shit justifying AI.
All AI music does is devalue the work done by human artists. It’s not accessibility, it’s exploitation. We need real protections for artists against AI!

BTW — even if you had access to this AI startup as a child, you still wouldn’t know how to make music.

we have to stop thinking about art in terms of the rapid timelapses we see in tiktoks and reels. don't you know that painters back in renaissance times often spent years on one painting? years! it is a massive investment of our time and energy

If you find an indie game you like, PLEASE talk about it on social media. You can make a developer go from being completely unknown to actually able to make money just by spreading the word.
The fact that itch posted this and not even an hour later I got a bunch of new sales proves how big it is when other people talk about your games.

It can literally be a life changing events.

When John Harper made a nice quote tweet about Breathless, hundreds of people looked at the game.

It's been five years since I updated my #CONAN Rules & Reference. But after playing it again recently I decided to add skill reference cards for every character (and make a few small fixes). Crush your enemies easier than ever before!

So apparently the correct response to shopping centre Santa ringing his bell is not to shout "bring out your dead!"

The Christmas FiL mistook kgs for lbs and the huge turkey he ordered could only JUST fit in the oven (at an angle). BiL up every 30 min through the night to tip, turn and baste it. When eventually decanted the sous-vided pterodactyl-like monstrosity collapsed over the sides of our biggest platter.

People who pirate books: “I just think art and literature should be FREE to everyone!”

Yes, I too would love to live in a world where art is accessible freely to all and yet artists are paid a living wage, but as this magical wagical pixie wixie land does not exist, please don’t steal from us.

I heard there was a Cohen song,

And all the Christians got it wrong,

But you don’t really get the meaning do ya?

‘Cause you see its about getting laid,

It’s sex, and love, and Jewish faith,

But all the gentiles heard was “hallelujah!”

Sounds funny today, but not long ago, the use of bicycles by women was considered *extremely* radical & dangerous--to be discouraged, even by supporters of women's right to vote.
All bc bicycles allowed women a tiny bit of freedom & mobility, without needing things a male guardian could withhold.
Suffragist and educator Frances Willard riding her bicycle, Gladys (because it made her glad).

“I learned to bicycle when 50... and I think it is one of the best things I ever did. What pleases me is to see other worn-out women take it up, and find a new lease of health and life thereby."
