Don't believe your eyes. You're not looking at an actual hummingbird: this is a MOTH, Macroglossum stellatarum.

The resemblance is so uncanny that their common name is "hummingbird hawkmoth".

Like its avian counterpart, M. stellatarum can hover, emitting a humming sound, to feed on nectar.
a close up of a moth on a flower
Alt: A hummingbird hawkmoth in slow motion video. It's a light brown with oddly triangular wings beating at incredible speeds. The body is rounded almost exactly like a bird's, not looking like a moth very much at all. It hovers near a dark blue compound flower, with a long black probiscis extended into the bell-shaped flower.

Considering that Gondor looks like a medieval polity, structurally - maybe 10th- or 11th-century France would be a reasonable comparison - Aragorn doesn't have the state capacity to have a very granular tax policy. Very likely he would have to have decentralised tax collection - i.e., tax farming.
has anyone tried to write a piece actually speculating on what aragorn's tax policy would have been like

for me, historical accuracy on film is exactly like book accuracy with an adaptation in the sense that inaccuracy is actually perfectly fine when it’s done thoughtfully and for the purpose of advancing the storytelling. it’s bad when it hurts the story or is done out of simple laziness

Its very notable how much of 17/8C history is literally fuck around and find out (through venereal disease)
Chinggis Khan dies from complications from falling off a horse! This is the problem with going 'arf arf, what is Aragorn's tax policy'....real life is often either a) dramatically unsatisfying or b) so dramatically neat as to feel contrived.
that's what makes medieval history so wild that so many stories of powerful rulers end with "and then on campaign he got the chills and died"

or in the case of vlad vi of wallachia "after a couple of large ones got on his horse and rode into the dâmbovița river"

Still wild to me the kids are now writing with AI instead of writing roleplays with a human.

For me, the appeal of RP was always the social aspect of coming up with a story together and having fun with a friend. If I just want to write, I can do that by myself
You don't need an AI companion, you need a friend or three who'll reliably write 400k+ words of unpublishable private literature with you.
The target audience for 'AI Companions' just needed formative platonic friends, the kind that forward you links to perverted art with the caption 'found this for you' and it's the most mortifyingly, blisteringly accurate lock on you possible.
