Musing on the social construction of gender through 'for her' gift lists, and how it's changing as we redefine class and suburban opulence. The ideal mom no longer loves wine, but still loves reading. Farmers markets, olive oil, puzzles, journaling. Very cottagecore, very clean, very wholesome.

Roasted two butternut squash (the second worst kind (so far)) with some red pepper, onion, and three heads of garlic. The goal was to wrestle a good soup out of it.

I made: very nice baby food.

Squash soups are just bad!! I'm sorry, autumn!!!

When I was 12 and could access the high school library, I read Arrows of the Queen and imprinted on it like a little duckling. It was the first book I read that had romance - even a fade-to-black sex scene! - and that Put Me On The Path.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Yesterday was 'veg out and play video games all day', today is 'do all the laundry since September' and 'clean all the corners where crap went to die for weeks' and also 'make dessert for dinner with my MIL tonight' and...

...I'm not very good at relaxing. But I AM very good at recovering.

Yesterday was my first day off in eight weeks, and today I FORGOT I had a day off, so I’m feeling very #blessed.

You know how your immune system snaps back into action after times of stress? Yeah, that. That’s happening.

I fell asleep in the dog bed last night! It was only a few hours, but unfortunately, I am 39 years old, and cannot be doing that shit, especially after 10+ hour convention days.

Splashed out a bit to get my hair dyed - booked it before The Money Pit opened up - and while it's fine (it's quite skilled - someone else would have asked for it!), it's not what I asked for, and is specifically the thing I said I didn't want. But it's FINE! But it's not what I wanted!

Something so fun about today: not only did Juno go in for surgery ($$$$) did they find more tumors than expected (+$$$), but our car died on the way to go pick her up,

, which effectively deletes all the money I've made working 60+ hour weeks for the past two months. soooo cool :)
November 7, 2025 at 2:37 AM
Juno has a lot of cancer, but hopefully has less now than before.

Had a genuine one-star rideshare experience, and when he drove away I got an email from Lyft like 'heyyyyy sweatie! We know you're a highly-rated rider, so SUPER WEIRD you just got a low rating! Were you in a itty-bitty meanie-weanie mood today? You should read our rider code of conduct!'

Scary sentences you don't want to be asked at the doctor's office: "...so, what's your lifetime maximum for prescription drugs?"

(I'm fine, but the new meds are approximately $30k/year.)

A KPDH thought I’ve been wrestling with: I thought it was pretty transparent that the Saja Boys were intended to be a commentary of shallow idol culture. They appear out of nowhere and demand your idolatry, despite having no substance other than their pretty faces. Just vibes and hunger.

Just chomped down on Strange Jigsaws, a short but satisfying puzzle game that really makes you think about what it means to 'play' with a game that's being playful with you right back.
