We need a new AAA games industry to replace the current one, which obviously is having a hard time. Our current AAA industry is failing investors by ignoring the simple facts. Nobody wants to play uh, Call of Duty? Or whatever? People want Super Market Bros, Pokemon red/blue and Wii Sports.

I did an MCU boot camp some months ago. One lab was about drawing a cross on the screen but once I got it rendering pixels I was like... How could I not immediately make a little dungeon crawler?

I added some conveniences to ease development. Being able to step through the ROM and observe the effect of each instruction will help a ton. Also, it is using an actual ROM now instead of a toy program (I haven't implemented the bootROM yet but I think that's my next project).

Oops! I started working on a game boy emulator in c compiled to wasm (because I want wasm stuff on my Github so that I can get wasm jobs, but also because emulator!).

I was delighted to find a cute little art book in my copy of Rime. Tequila Works must have been geniuses, even giants like Nintendo and SquareEnix haven't been able to consistently put a little book inside their game boxes.

This is one reason you should target a 50 year old platform, rather than writing your game in a big engine. Unity is never going to be able to deploy on as many platforms as game boy can.
There is now a full speed Gameboy emulator for PlayDate!
It’s very polished, with sound support, and lots of options. It even supports using it as a wrapper for devs to release homebrew GB games on PlateDate.
