Jon, Jon, O Jon. Love ya for getting us through the aughts, but the 20’s have been far worse because of #LongCovud. Which I’ve had for five years as of today, so I’m #OneOfTheTwo. Don’t be an ass.

One thought I keep close by, that makes me feel some trace of nobility (lol, I know): if recovery ever comes, I will never forget or walk away from my brothers and sisters with this illness and similar conditions and with disabled people generally. I’ll remember what it’s like to have no voice.

I don’t talk — post — personally about it often because it’s fucking boring and absurd and leaves me cold and empty, feeling nothing.

Five years ago today I tested + for Covid. I developed Long Covid. Lost my ability to work, exercise, socialize, travel, write or read scholarship, drink alcohol, eat sugar, hold long conversations. Let me be clear: lost & not regained. A life of fatigue & headache. Mostly homebound. What a world.

I’d agree. 90s albums that’ve been important to me as a musician, writer:

Tom Petty, Wildflowers
Robert Earl Keen, Gringo Honeymoon
Steve Earle, I Feel Alright
Lucinda (below)
Gillian Welch, Revival
Prine, Lost Dogs
Dwight Yoakam, Gone
Dylan, Time Out of Mind
Del McCoury Band, Cold Hard Facts
post a perfect album from the 90s that isn't nirvana, pearl jam, soundgarden, or alice in chains

‘Bed rest caused muscle atrophy, and the reduced oxidative phosphorylation related to reductions in maximal oxygen uptake.

Patients with LONG COVID & ME/CFS did not have muscle atrophy,
but had less capillaries & more glycolytic fibers,
none of which were associated with maximal oxygen uptake’

Would be a funny line to drop at the right moment

The response to this feels somewhat akin to the response to Hillbilly Elegy— that certain liberals must read it and praise it so that they can properly and publicly perform humility to atone for their eliteness. This is despite both of these books being written by Ivy Leaguers.

A German Prof posted he’s excited to read a new journal volume over Christmas break. I once sat on a panel at a conference for a book of his, and a different German academic on the panel said he’d excitedly read the book on summer holiday. I consider both friends. Was I ever like that? Yikes 😂

When I say, “Hang in there!,” I mean, “You are dangling like a fly freshly caught in a silky thread of The Universe’s spidery web; and the only other thing possible is, you fall to the unknowable abyss below; so, continue!”

The Second Coming came about;
Christ went on quite the rampage.
Christians didn’t like it:
Some property was damaged.

LSU is paying its previous football coach over $50 million NOT to coach there while likely guaranteeing Kiffin something approaching double that, all while having an academic hiring freeze and budget cuts across the board. What is the purpose of a university (rhetorical)?
SOURCES: Lane Kiffin is expected to accept LSU's offer to become the Tigers next head coach. Kiffin is set to meet with his Ole Miss team this morning at 9 AM CT. As we reported yesterday morning, LSU has been very confident it was going to land Kiffin. www.nytimes.com/athletic/684...

This can be confusing if you have #MECFS or #LongCovid

Many resources, guides, experts say post exertional malaise (PEM) = post exertional symptom exacerbation (PESE)

I actually prefer the way Davenport separates them 🧵

Beautiful @thesicktimes.org essay on how to be a friend to your friends who are affected by Long Covid—and why you should.

Def worth a few minutes of your time.
