Saw a news report yesterday about children as young as 9 being given weight loss jabs on the NHS, and I think it shows just how utterly bullshit the “lack of research into long term impacts” excuse for banning puberty blockers for trans kids really was. It’s purely ideological.

Microsoft Needs To Add At Least $344bn In New AI Revenue The Next Four Years, Increasing By $60bn+ A Quarter, Plus Billions More In Losses From OpenAI Each Quarter Capital Expenditures — $172.04 2023: $28.11bn ($56.22bn) 2024: $44.48bn ($88.96bn) 2025: $64.55bn ($129.1bn) OpenAI burn: $4.725bn Q1 2026: $34.9bn ($69.8bn) OpenAI burn: $3.1bn So, to be clear, Microsoft’s depreciation schedule is six years, and every single time they spend more capex the number balloons. I also want to be very clear about how god damn difficult this becomes every single quarter they don’t make profit from AI. To make the capex that it spent in 2023, Microsoft must add over $56bn in revenue in the financial years 2024 to 2028. To give you some scale, Microsoft’s most recent quarterly revenue was $77.67bn, and its net income was $27.7bn — and has been in the 20s since 2023. Year-over-year, net income was around 12% — though that was after a $3.1bn hit from losses associated with OpenAI, which brought net revenue down from what would’ve been 24.8% Which begs the question: is OpenAI becoming a parasite on the side of Microsoft? To explain, due to equity method accounting (as Microsoft now has a 27% stake in OpenAI after its for-profit conversion, as explained here by The Register), Microsoft now has to disclose OpenAI’s losses commensurate with its investment — meaning that it took a 27% loss on the $11.5bn that OpenAI lost in FY2026 Q1. As OpenAI’s losses widen, so too do Microsoft’s, eating into the already-decaying margins. And man, even without those margins things seem really bad. Based on my calculations, Microsoft would effectively have to double its business within the next two years to make any of this worthwhile. You see, Microsoft doesn’t just have to add revenue. It’s spent, to this point, $172bn since the beginning of FY2023, and I see no evidence of any significant boost to net revenue. In fact, Microsoft’s year-over-year net revenue is basically identical to where it was from 2019 onwards — and while you can try and pretend that that’s a result of AI growth, it also only spent $23.8bn in capital expenditures for the entirety of FY2022 (July 1 2021 through June 30 2022), which is $11.1bn less than Microsoft spent in the first quarter of FY2026! In simpler terms, Microsoft has increased its capital expenditures by several hundred percent a fiscal year for effectively no fucking reason, unless of course it’s secretly hiding incredible, beautiful revenues from AI — which would make sense if Microsoft didn’t stop reporting their AI revenues in Q3 FY2025. Worse still, of its $34.9bn in capital expenditures in Q1 FY2026, $11.1bn were just for leases on data center sites. Microsoft is burning unbelievable amounts of cash without any real reason to do so other than to “do AI,” and the only counter-argument you can possibly have here is that Microsoft’s non-AI businesses are decaying. I am guessing, but the reality is likely that continual growth in the Intelligent Cloud and Business Productivity units outside of AI are papering over their losses. If Microsoft keeps up this pace, it will have to make north of $500bn by FY2028 just to cover the amount it spent on AI. And the assets it’s acquired are actively decaying at an exponential rate, with Microsoft reporting depreciation of $34.153bn in FY 2025, compared to $13.861bn in 2023. These figures — which already represent a major drag on its net income — are only going to get worse in the years to come, as more GPUs come onlin…
